Job description

Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule
 
Full-time position available with the Public Works Department - Traffic Operations Division
Location: 5310 Municipal Ave
Pay Starting at: $23.98 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.

Responsibilities
 
What You'll Do:
  • Inspects and verifies maintenance work conducted by contractors.
  • Inspects new lighting, electrical, and control installations on permit and City-wide projects.
  • Collects inventory and asset data, including GPS information, and transfers assets into the maintenance program.
  • Verifies knockdowns and the make-safe function of energized electrical circuits.
  • Conducts surveys, lighting layout, circuitry planning, and constructability field work.
  • Oversees and inspects night run activities.
  • Utilizes Flukes, power meters, light meters, and other testing equipment to measure lighting and electrical system performance.
  • Inspects telecommunications company attachments to streetlight equipment and applies knowledge of NEC and NESC codes.
  • Verifies Evergy service installations and accounts and collaborates with Evergy planners on circuit design.
  • Verifies group re-lamping, cleaning, and inspection of streetlight assets.
  • Utilizes as-built maps and AutoCAD to update lighting and electrical system maps.
  • Prepares field reports documenting construction activities.
  • Plans, inspects, and inventories various attachments and Smart City projects.
  • Participates in snow removal activities.
Qualifications
 
REQUIRES 
  • High school graduation AND 
  • five (5) years of related and increasingly responsible experience in engineering, drawing, mapping, automated mapping, geographical information systems (GIS) and equipment, computer aided drafting and design (CADD), engineering, land survey, construction inspection and related fields OR 
  • High school graduation AND
  • Two (2) years of experience at the level of Engineering Technician and possession of one of the two certifications:
    • Level II Engineering Technology Certification in any Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical discipline as issued by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET)
    • "Land Surveyor in Training" as issued by the Missouri Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects
    • Class B Wastewater Collections System Certification from the Missouri Water Environmental Association OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Ability to pass a background check, preemployment drug screen, and physical examination as prescribed by the City
  • Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO Policies
