As a result, candidates must be located in the Seattle, WA Metro, and Greater Puget Sound, WA areas of the United States to be considered for this role.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot a highly available IP/BGP telecommunications network.
  • Configure and install routers, switches, firewalls, and related network devices.
  • Configure, implement, and troubleshoot customer telecommunications services, including DIA, DWDM, Metro Ethernet, and other offerings.
  • Monitor key network indicators, including performance, device health, availability, status, and integrity.
  • Manage and maintain the company's Zero Trust and SASE security suite, supporting deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and planning.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot network-related hypervisors and virtual machines.
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux and Windows servers.
  • Develop and maintain automation for network provisioning, configuration, monitoring, validation, and operational tasks. Regularly evaluate the reliability and effectiveness of automated processes.
  • Research and evaluate new network technologies and recommend network equipment purchases during infrastructure refresh cycles.
  • Serve as a technical leader by providing consulting services to Threshold Communications customers.
  • Assist with troubleshooting network issues and act as the highest point of technical escalation.
  • Create custom solutions for customers as part of the sales engineering role, with limited capacity.
  • Assist with Threshold Communications' VoIP platform, including hosted PBX, SIP trunking, and related VoIP services.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation. Record procedures, configurations, troubleshooting, and completed work in the company's ticketing system and knowledge base.
  • Mentor team members on technical issues and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Perform on-site data center work to install, troubleshoot, and maintain systems and network equipment.
  • Participate in the Engineering team's on-call rotation.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Eight or more years of industry experience as a Network Engineer, Network Administrator, or in a comparable networking role.
  • Telecommunications industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • In-depth understanding of TCP/IP and routing protocols, including BGP and OSPF.
  • Strong working knowledge of the OSI model and ability to troubleshoot TCP/IP networks using physical and software diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in planning, deploying, and troubleshooting WANs, LANs, firewalls, DNS, VLANs, static and dynamic IP addressing, and VPNs.
  • Experience supporting on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle OCI.
  • Deep understanding of Metro Ethernet services and terminology, including EPL, EVPL, UNIs, NNIs, and IEEE 802.1ad.
  • Strong understanding of network operating systems, including Arista EOS, Cisco IOS XR, Ciena SAOS, Fortinet FortiOS, and Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS.
  • Experience with virtualization and container technologies, including VMware, KVM, Proxmox, Docker, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Proficiency in Linux and UNIX system administration, including deployment, troubleshooting, updates, and security patching.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Unix-based operating systems, including Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, FreeBSD, and Windows Server.
  • Experience with administration in Office365 suite of solutions.
  • Knowledge in scripting languages and other automation tools such as Python, Bash, Ansible, or others.
  • Ability to independently analyze systems and networks, develop designs, and plan implementations.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools, including Splunk, Zabbix, and the Elastic Stack.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
