    Job description

    Dentons US LLP is currently recruiting for a Senior Accountant to be resident in our Chicago office. This position will primarily be responsible for taking a lead role with the monthly financial reporting and budget variance analysis and maintaining accurate books and records at a Firm level, as well as by individual department and location.  The ideal candidate would possess excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills and have great attention to detail. This position will report to the Assistant Controller.  This is a hybrid position with a two day in-office requirement.

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform Dentons Global Services (GCP) billing, analysis and reporting.
    • Perform US Regional, CA and NZ billing, analysis and reporting.
    • Prepare journal entries, reconcile and report on the Firm's fixed assets using the Sage application.
    • Analyze accounts, reconcile and prepare schedules for payments and postings.
    • Perform monthly reconciliations; research and investigate reconciling items and propose solutions.
    • Perform weekly and monthly system balancing.
    • Perform the twice-monthly posting of payroll journal entries; maintain pay codes in the UKG payroll system.
    • Perform the compilation and analysis of month-end and year-end reporting requirements, including US financial reporting to the partnership and global reporting team.
    • Perform the lead role with the budget variance analysis.
    • Prepare quarterly and yearly external surveys.
    • Maintain accurate balances in balance sheet and income statement accounts; prepare reclass journal entries and ensure all entries posted are correct.
    • Maintain account reconciliation schedules and with members of the Accounting and Finance teams and other departments to understand all reconciling items and ensure the resolution of issues.
    • Assist with yearly financial audit, ensuring all audit schedules are accurately and timely prepared and reconciled.
    • Act as a resource for the staff accountant by answering questions, occasional review of work prepared, coordinating efforts to maintain account schedules.
    • Assist with additional ad hoc requests and special projects as needed.
    • Communicate with other professionals in the Firm and assist in providing information requested.
    • Maintain confidentiality and internal controls as required by Firm policies and procedures.
    • Meet continuing education requirements and continue expanding knowledge base through reading professional publications, attending relevant seminars etc.
    • Ensure compliance with Firm's accounting policies and practices, including cash basis financials, fixed asset policies.
    • Other duties to fully meet with requirements of this position.

    Experience & Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
    • 3+ years of accounting experience, required
    • 3+ years of financial reporting and budget variance analysis, required
    • CPA preferred
    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
    • Public Accounting or professional services experience a plus
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
    • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Flexibility to work overtime, as needed

    The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000 DOE
