    Description

    The Ground Hand plays a critical support role in DCOMM's Construction Services operations. This position assists with daily field activities, equipment handling, material organization, and job site setup. The Ground Hand ensures safety and efficiency on site, providing essential support to aerial and underground construction crews. This is an entry-level position offering valuable hands-on experience and opportunities for advancement within the telecommunications construction industry.

    Requirements

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Support construction operations by loading, unloading, and transporting materials, tools, and equipment.
    • Assist with job site setup and teardown, ensuring safe and organized work areas.
    • Perform general yard and grounds maintenance to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient workspace.
    • Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely under supervision.
    • Serve as a parts and materials courier, delivering supplies to job sites in a timely manner.
    • Inspect materials and tools for damage, report issues, and ensure equipment is properly stored.
    • Follow all company safety procedures and maintain compliance with OSHA and DCOMM safety standards.
    • Assist field teams with placing materials, guiding equipment, or managing traffic control as directed.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project and operational needs.
    WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
    • Experience: Prior experience in construction, utilities, or telecommunications preferred but not required; training provided.
    • Licensing: Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
    • Screening: Must successfully pass pre-employment background check, MVR, and drug test.
    • Physical Capability: Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. occasionally with or without assistance.
    • Environment: Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
    • Safety: Knowledge of or willingness to learn safe work area setup and equipment handling.
    • Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, and committed to teamwork and safety.
    • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills.
    • Adaptability: Willingness to assist across different functions to support the overall success of the construction team.
    PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    • Work Environment: Primarily outdoors at construction or field sites. Exposure to weather elements and physical labor is frequent.
    • Physical Requirements: Regularly required to stand, bend, lift, climb, or operate equipment for extended periods.
    • Safety Requirements: Must wear and maintain required PPE and adhere to all company safety protocols.
    • Travel: Occasional travel to job sites or between locations may be required.
