Job description

Job Summary
The Lead UI Software Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of modern, scalable, and high-performing user interfaces for enterprise web applications. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, driving UI architecture, development standards, and best practices while mentoring development teams. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in React JS, Redux, modern JavaScript frameworks, API integrations, and cloud-native technologies, with a strong focus on building reusable components, optimizing application performance, and delivering exceptional user experiences.
Working within an Agile environment, the Lead UI Software Engineer will collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, backend engineers, DevOps teams, and business stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions that align with business objectives and technical strategy.
About the Role
About the Role
As a Lead UI Software Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the front-end architecture and technical direction of our applications. You will lead the design and development of responsive, scalable, and maintainable web solutions using React JS and related technologies while ensuring adherence to engineering best practices and coding standards.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing new features throughout the entire software development lifecycle-from requirements gathering and prototyping to implementation, testing, deployment, and production support. You will partner closely with backend teams to integrate GraphQL and REST services, contribute to micro-application design and implementation, and help drive continuous improvements in application performance, reliability, and user experience.
Beyond technical delivery, you will provide leadership and mentorship to both onshore and offshore UI engineering teams, conducting code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance sessions to ensure high-quality software development practices. You will also support modern DevOps processes, containerized deployments, authentication and API gateway integrations, and cloud-based solutions while helping the organization deliver software efficiently and at scale.
This position is ideal for a highly motivated technical leader who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, influencing architectural decisions, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing development culture.

In This Role You Will
Develop features in all areas within our applications, including collaboration in requirements definition, prototyping, design, coding, debugging, and testing.
Lead the design and development of scalable and responsive web applications using React JS and Redux.
Define and enforce UI architecture, coding standards, and best practices.
Develop reusable, maintainable, and performant UI components using modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Work closely with backend teams to ensure seamless integration with GraphQL/REST APIs.
Be able to work directly, efficiently, and professionally in an Agile environment with other developers and team members including senior developers, systems administrators, and business users.
Able to work independently to solve complex problems.
Design/Document new features using object-oriented concepts and apply SOLID principles to implementation.
Adhere to our branching, release, and versioning strategy to optimize the team's ability to respond to change and frequently deliver high quality, working software.
Unit test code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability.
Work on bug fixing and improving application performance.

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Cincinnati, OH. Required Qualifications
At least 5 years of experience with development of UI with React JS, Redux, Graph QL or REST
Experience designing and implementing microapp end to end.
Good Understanding of containerized applications
Experience with dev ops tools (Jenkins/Git/Rancher)
Experience with unit testing frameworks
Experience on Integration with Ping Federation & Apigee
Good to have cloud experience using Azure
Lead and mentor offshore/onshore UI teams, ensuring timely and quality delivery of features.
Good experience with UML Diagram creation with Visio or draw.io
Conduct code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance sessions.

Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until July 21 st 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between $80,000 - $150,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
