    Job description

    Overview

    Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Project Engineer, or higher level, to join our growing New York Highways & Traffic Engineering team! The primary focus will be supporting NY infrastructure projects along with supplemental projects in CT, western MA, and VT.

    Our infrastructure design professionals undertake projects ranging in all sizes and complexities, providing conceptual planning, alignment studies, and preparing contract documents for construction of improvements to local and county roadway networks, and state and interstate highways. We develop alternative improvement plans to balance project costs with other factors including environmental, utility and property impacts.

    Responsibilities
    • Apply diversified engineering principles and practices to our highway/roadway engineering operations as well as supporting bridge, rail, and water resources disciplines as needed.
    • Take the lead in technical design aspects including design development and the creation of plans, specifications, estimates, calculations, design reports, and construction documents.
    • Develop roadway, sidewalk, intersection design, including roundabouts, traffic signals, interchanges, and other highway infrastructure.
    • Perform QA/QC on work products from drafters and design engineers. May act as quality coordinator for discipline led projects.
    • Project coordination between multiple internal disciplines and may serve as a direct contact for clients, other design professionals, and contractors.
    • Assist in the education, development, and mentoring of staff and act as a resource for design questions. Provide some delegation and supervision of design engineers.
    • Basic project management tasks such as staffing, scope and proposal writing, scheduling and budgeting as appropriate for experience level.
    • May attend project meetings and assist in presentations to clients and the public.
    • A willingness to adapt and grow, continually learning, and expanding career skills.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is required.
    • 5+ years of infrastructure engineering design experience is preferred; drainage experience is a plus.
    • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is required; PE license or able to obtain within 6 months of hire is preferred.
    • Previous software experience with MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads Designer, and/or Civil 3D is a plus.
    • Willing to work independently and with others as a team member.
    • Interest in developing, coaching, and mentoring junior staff.
    • Familiarity of working with Local Design Services Agreement (LDSA) infrastructure projects.
    • Previous NYSDOT, NYSTA, and/or Locally Administered Federal Aid Project experience is a plus.
    • Active membership of a professional practice organization or willing to join is encouraged.
    • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

    Compensation: $90,000 to $120,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
