Job description

Job Summary:
Clayton Homes is a leading single-family home builder committed to attainable housing and sustainable practices. The Data Engineer role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data solutions while ensuring data quality and enabling data-driven decision-making across various business units.
Responsibilities:
• Develops curated and modeled data within the platform’s semantic layer to support self‑service data products for the assigned domain.
• Applies dimensional modeling, semantic‑layer design principles, and business logic to create accurate, performant, and stakeholder aligned datasets.
• Prototypes new data products—such as dashboard suites, drag-and-drop self-service experiences, or simplified Lakehouse tables—to enable customer feedback and iteration prior to production deployment.
• Develops data‑quality checks and reporting to monitor critical data elements for all assigned data products, ensuring trust and reliability in business‑facing outputs.
Qualifications:
Required:

• Develops data‑quality checks and reporting to monitor critical data elements for all assigned data products, ensuring trust and reliability in business‑facing outputs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Strong knowledge of SQL
• Strong knowledge of data design, data modeling, and semantic layer modeling.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to think outside of the box
• Must work as part of the team while capable of completing individual assignments
• Practical understanding of business fundamentals including Accounting and Finance
• Comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization
• Self-motivated with the capability to meet deadlines on overlapping projects
• Sound ethical judgment and the ability to be trusted to work with sensitive information
• Ability to operate without direct oversight
• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics or equivalent formal training and work experience
Preferred:
• Experience using Tableau, PowerBI, and/or SSRS is highly preferred
• Experience using Python for data modeling or programming preferred
• Experience with version control/Git preferred
• Cloud platform knowledge preferred
• Working knowledge of CI/CD for data workflows
