Role Summary:
The Aprentice Process Operator role is responsible for safe, compliant, reliable production all refining operations and utilities operations according to Shift Supervisor instructions and standard operating procedures and guidelines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:
  • Operations. Train and apply knowledge to ensure the plant is operating safely; within environmental limits and reliably and efficiently. This role will serve as the key player for operational areas including terminals and tank farm once trained.
  • Daily Job Duties. Train and apply knowledge to be able to patrol units to ensure safety, report malfunctioning equipment, and regulate pumps and compressors. Learn to take product samples. Learn and apply knowledge to aligning product receipt and deliveries, sampling products, conducting and overseeing routine inspections for compliance with company, industry and government standards and assisting other operators when circumstances require it during upsets, preparation of equipment for maintenance, etc.
  • Safety and Compliance. Become knowledgeable to be able to executing operations safely on all facilities while maintaining safety, reliability, profitability and product quality, serving as the key player in obtaining a Zero injury safety initiative and Safe and reliable Process Unit Operations and effectively implementing the safety program and the use of all related tools. Responsible to identify hazards and mitigate risks to as low as reasonably practical LARP. Establish safe work conditions for all work executed inside the facility, including open flame hot work, confined space entry and all hazardous work permits.
  • Emergency Response. Participating on Emergency Response Team to act promptly in case of emergencies, including incipient stage fires, vapor cloud release, donning SCBA for response to potential exposures. Participating in safety meetings and periodic emergency response drills and discussions; and reviewing Operating procedures, including Critical Task and Special procedures and Emergency Planning and Preparedness.
  • Reliability. Train and apply knowledge to ensure Equipment Reliability Operating envelopes are closely followed during and that requires data is recorded and reviewed, preparing Work Orders including those for Emergency work, reporting and helping analyze equipment failures with Maintenance Technicians and provides information necessary to conduct root cause analysis and preparing and following up on Operating Envelope deviations.
  • Personnel and training. Attending mandatory trainings and Firefighting training and assisting and mentoring teammates as needed.
  • Internal Control. Ensuring that all control requirements (API/local regulations, DOT) are applied consistently.
  • And other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 0 - 1 year of experience in terminal operations is preferred

Certificates & Licenses:
  • Eligibility for TWIC card as dictated by facility and governmental regulations

  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.

Physical & Safety Requirements:
  • The employee may be exposed to a hazardous working environment at field locations and must be able to enter and climb above-grade storage tanks.
  • Ability to climb ladders (approx. 50 feet) and work comfortably and safely at heights for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors for extended periods of time during all weather conditions.
