Bruker Energy and Supercon Technologies (Bruker EST) is the world leader in the production of superconducting wires. For more than 50 years, our high performance superconductors have met the needs of healthcare, academic and industrial organizations worldwide, helping drive new discoveries in the clinical and pharmaceutical sectors, including the breakthrough technology of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning, advanced materials science, and sustainable energies.  

This position is with Bruker OST, a business unit of Bruker Energy and Supercon Technologies located in Carteret, NJ.  We manufacture advanced superconducting wires (like RRP and NbTi) used to build MRI machines, scientific research magnets, and high-energy physics applications.

The Senior Director of Business Development and Sales is a key customer-facing and site-linked commercial leader responsible for driving revenue growth, managing strategic customer accounts, and ensuring seamless coordination between customers and internal functions.

The role combines business development, key account management, quotation and contract ownership, and site-level sales process leadership, with close interaction between the Carteret operation and global Bruker sites, particularly manufacturing and technical teams.

This position plays a critical role in translating customer requirements into executable commercial and operational outcomes while supporting broader global sales and strategy objectives

Business Development & Account Management:

• Manage and grow a portfolio of key commercial, industrial, academic, and government-funded customer accounts.
• Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities aligned with product and market strategy.
• Serve as the primary commercial interface from initial customer inquiry through quotation, order placement, and delivery.
• Develop and maintain long-term customer relationships with technical, procurement, and executive stakeholders.
• Support customer negotiations, contractual discussions, and key account agreements.

Sales Execution & Commercial Ownership:

• Ensure timely order placement, revenue generation, and on-time fulfillment in coordination with operations, quality, and logistics teams.
• Develop cost models, pricing strategies, and customer quotations.
• Manage open bids, proposals, and customer requests for quotation (RFQs).
• Maintain customer pricing files and ensure adherence to agreed commercial terms.
• Provide regular reporting on account performance, forecast, orders, and customer trends.

Site & Cross-Functional Leadership:

• Act as the primary sales and business development representative at the Carteret site, closely coordinating with manufacturing and technical teams.
• Ensure internal alignment across sales, operations, engineering, quality, logistics, planning, and costing functions.
• Support execution of internal sales processes including order handling, issue resolution, and complaint management.
• Participate in and support annual strategy and budget planning processes.
• Actively contribute to continuous improvement and change initiatives affecting sales and customer-facing processes.

Marketing & Strategic Contribution:

• Support marketing activities such as trade shows, customer visits, website content, and promotional materials.
• Coordinate with Germany team to leverage broader product offerings and technical capabilities.
• Contribute market intelligence, customer feedback, and competitive insights to product and strategy discussions.

• PHD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related technical field required
• To qualify at Senior Director level, a minimum of 15 years of sales, business development, applications or technical commercial experience within advanced materials, superconductors, physics-based technologies, or high-tech manufacturing environments. Candidates with less than 15 years of experience will still be considered, but the title may be impacted.
• Demonstrated experience working with industrial, academic, and government-funded customers.
• Experience working in or with multi-national organizations is strongly preferred

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong commercial judgment and customer-negotiation skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical and commercial topics clearly and professionally.
• Proven ability to operate across functions and influence outcomes without direct line authority.
• Solid understanding of internal sales processes, order management, and customer workflows.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) preferred.
• Self-driven, organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
• Professional, collaborative, and confident when engaging with customers and internal stakeholders at all levels.

Working Conditions:

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally approximately 30-40%, including multi-day trips.
• When not traveling, the role is expected to be on-site, in the office.

At Bruker, the base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $191,000 and $284,000 and provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base salary for the role will depend on several job-related factors, including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge, and travel requirements for this position.
