As part of the Advanced Technology Group, the Technical Writer will develop, manage, and deliver high-quality technical documentation in support of advanced technology research, engineering, and system development efforts for U.S. government customers-including programs within the Department of War (DoW). The role requires exceptional communication skills, the ability to translate highly complex technical concepts, and experience working within classified or restricted environments.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, write, edit, and maintain comprehensive documentation such as system specifications, interface documents, engineering reports, user manuals, operational procedures, test plans, and maintenance guides.

  • Conduct structured interviews with engineering SMEs, system architects, analysts, and program managers to gather detailed technical information.
  • Apply DoD documentation standards, configuration control, and style guidelines to all deliverables. Ensure documentation aligns with government contract requirements, CDRLs, and technical data standards.

  • Support programs involved in advanced and emerging technologies by producing accurate and timely technical artifacts.
  • Collaborate closely across engineering, testing, logistics, cybersecurity, and program management teams to maintain documentation consistency throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Prepare classified and unclassified deliverables in accordance with organizational policies, safeguarding sensitive information.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation templates, workflows, and best-practice guidance.

  • Demonstrated experience developing complex technical documentation for defense systems or advanced technology environments.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, software development lifecycle, test methodologies, and engineering workflows.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite).
  • Excellent analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BA/S in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or other related field.
  • Prior experience supporting classified programs or working with controlled unclassified information (CUI).
  • Familiarity with DoD-specific documentation standards (MIL-STD, style guides, CDRLs).
  • Experience documenting advanced R&D systems.
  • Knowledge of configuration-management systems and secure document workflows.

Physical Demand:
