Job description

Systems Administrator (Associate, Experienced)

Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) seeks a seeks a Systems Administrator to serve as Systems Administrator & Integrator on the Global Positioning System (GPS) IIF program, within our Space, Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) division located at Schriever Space Force Base, about 10 miles east of Colorado Springs.

GPS is a satellite-based radio-navigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force and is the world's first global utility. GPS provides position, navigation, and timing (PNT) data to military and civilian users globally with countless applications and an unlimited number of users.

Boeing has over 45 years of history in GPS, including achieving full system capability in 1995. The current Boeing team supports the US Space Force by sustaining and monitoring the health and capabilities of the 12 GPS Block IIF satellites in the GPS constellation, launched from 2010 to 2016. The Boeing GPS sustainment team also provides support to our U.S. Space Force customer with reports and expertise on all aspects of the GPS system. Sustainment efforts will continue through the life of the Block IIF satellites, with a design life expectancy to 2031 and beyond. The program currently operates under a 10-year sustainment contract, from 2022 to 2031.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform configuration management, system integration, and reliability of hardware and software to include installation and repairs, and configuration and maintenance of domain system components to support the GPS architecture.
  • Provide problem resolution and technical support for our classified systems.
  • Support the maintenance, reliability, validation, and configuration management of computing delivery systems.
  • Maintain and monitor system performance to support and improve reliability of the GPS operational mission.
  • Integrate logistics, automation, data analytics, technological advances, and engineering into an ecosystem that supports the mission while meeting modern cybersecurity requirements.
  • Leverage GitLab administration and automation.
  • Perform data integrity functions in a medium-sized Windows Enterprise Domain architecture.
  • Analyze, develop, and maintain automation and scripting tools in support of system administration efficiencies, configuration management, and reliability functions.
  • Install, configure, monitor, and maintain multiplatform systems, hardware, software, virtual machines, and components.
  • Support real-time satellite mission as well as offline test efforts, ensuring the system conforms to mission requirements.
  • Assist in disaster recovery actions, including planning, backup and restoration of complex computing service operations and identify, analyze, and address vulnerability management action items.
  • Perform/assist in administrative tasks related to the system such as technical writing, system documentation, cybersecurity, and configuration management audits.

This position is expected to be fully onsite at Schriever SFB, CO and necessitates the ability to navigate the military base worksite where there are buildings without elevators and a long walk from the parking lot.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Active (interim or final) secret or above U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • 1+ years of related experience.
  • Current Security+ (Sec+) certification or other current IAT level II DoD 8140 (previously 8570) Approved Baseline Certification.
  • If not within commuting distance from Schriever SFB, willingness and ability to relocate at own expense.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • Basic proficiency in hardware repair.
  • Troubleshooting and restoration of computing service operations experience.
  • Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software installations and support experience.
  • Active Directory/LDAP experience.
  • Cybersecurity vulnerability resolution experience.
  • Networking/Cisco IOS experience.
  • Restoration of computing service operations experience.
  • Experience integrating cybersecurity solutions into information systems and associated processes.
  • LAN and database configuration, management, and maintenance experience.
  • Cybersecurity scanning, monitoring, analysis, and resolution experience.
  • RHEL 8 (or higher) System Administration experience.
  • Virtualization environment (VMWare, Hyper-V) and storage array experience.
  • Trellix or HBSS or equivalent Endpoint tool experience.

Typical Education & Experience:

Associate (level 2): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master, 6 year's related work experience, etc.).

Experienced (level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience, 9 years' related work experience, etc.)
