    Job description


    BAE Systems, a leading defense contractor, is seeking a CNC Machine Programmer to join our Naval Weapon Systems team in Louisville, Kentucky. We prioritize safety, offer competitive benefits, and promote a healthy work-life balance through our 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off).
    We are looking for a proactive professional to optimize our CNC programming processes. The ideal candidate will challenge current operational norms to improve efficiency and precision across the site. You will be responsible for translating complex blueprints with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and CAD models into high-precision components, utilizing industry-leading software and simulation tools to ensure first-pass success. The position is crucial for BAE Systems' production of advanced defense systems and other high-tech products.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Technical Leadership & Programming
    • CNC Programming: Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs (G-code, M-code) for a variety of machinery, including mills, lathes, routers, grinders, EDM, and honing machines.
    • Software Expertise: Utilize Siemens NX for CAD/CAM modeling and cutting path creation; employ Vericut for machining simulation to validate programs before production.
    • Blueprint Analysis: Interpret complex engineering drawings and CAD models, applying advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure strict adherence to specifications.
    • System Integration: Coordinate the integration of software with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to ensure seamless machine performance.
    Operational Excellence & Quality
    • Validation & Testing: Perform test runs and iterative adjustments to ensure finished components meet all design specifications.
    • Quality Control: Inspect finished products using precision measuring instruments; conduct root cause analysis on operational issues or system bottlenecks.
    • Technical Guidance: Provide strategic direction on complex projects, influencing technical decisions to align with business goals.
    Collaboration & Documentation
    • Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with Design, Quality, and Production teams to integrate machining processes seamlessly.
    • Training & Mentorship: Develop detailed documentation, production logs, and training materials. Mentor and train machinists on the correct operation of CNC programs.
    • Maintenance Support: Collaborate with maintenance teams on preventative machine care and basic troubleshooting.

    Required Skills and Education
    Education & Experience
    • Option A: High School Diploma (or GED) and 6+ years of relevant experience.
    • Option B: Technical Certificate or Associate's Degree in CNC Programming and 4+ years of experience.
    • Core Experience: 3-5 years of direct experience in a manufacturing environment as a CNC Programmer, specifically with multi-axis machinery.
    Skills
    • Proficiency in Siemens NX CAD/CAM software.
    • Expertise in CNC control systems (Siemens, Fanuc, KT, G&L).
    • Advanced ability to interpret technical blueprints and CAD models (GD&T)
