    Company Description
    • AVANCE is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which began in San Antonio, Texas in 1973. AVANCE derives from the Spanish word meaning "to advance or "to progress." AVANCE is considered a pioneer in the field of parent education, helping support children and families achieve excellence through education and family intervention programs which includes the renowned AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program. We provide community-based interventions, which are family-centered, preventive, comprehensive, and continuous through the integration and collaboration of educational services.

      What began in a 500-unit public housing development in San Antonio, Texas, with an annual budget of $50,000 serving 35 families, AVANCE has grown to over 100 program sites across the U.S. serving thousands of parents and children annually.

      POSITION SUMMARY

      This position will serve as a link between participants and community services. The Family Development Worker is also responsible for providing participants with comprehensive case management (including family development and adult education services) through the development and implementation of a family partnership agreement that describes family goals, responsibilities, timetables, and strategies for achieving these goals as well as progress in achieving them. The provision of all services will focus on promoting the educational and economic success of the participants that wil in turn promote their child's overall growth and development.


      Working Conditions:

    • General office and sedentary.
    • Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and
      talk or hear.
    • Occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral
      vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
    • Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
    • Work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Local and day travel is required on a frequent basis.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE SKILLS:

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    Must be familiar with the community and community support agencies.

    Knowledge of child development techniques.

    Must exhibit a willingness to assist in the personal development of low- income families.

    Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the families and the program.

    Must be able to work in the evening and on weekends, if necessary.

    Bilingual- English / Spanish preferred.

    Ability to maintain emotional control under stress


    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE:

    Working in educational, social services, or family literacy setting.

    Working with parents and young children

    Working with families with diverse cultural and economic backgrounds

    EDUCATION:

    Required: CDA minimum requirement.

    Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Early Child Education or related field preferred
