Job description

Position Summary - Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Asante Medical Group
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key leadership role reporting to the CEO. The CMO is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations, quality of care, physician, NP, and PA alignment, and performance. The CMO will work closely with the CEO, senior leadership, and physician leaders to ensure high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care. This role will focus on clinical governance, strategic planning, operational oversight, and fostering a collaborative environment for physicians, NPs, PAs, clinical staff, and administrative leadership. The CMO will also ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards, promote continuous improvement in clinical care, and drive innovation within the practice.

As the Chief Medical Officer, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare delivery, strengthen provider engagement, advance clinical excellence, and improve health outcomes for the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Quality & Safety
  • Lead quality, patient safety, and clinical standardization initiatives while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Drive hospital-wide efforts to improve clinical outcomes, reduce preventable harm, and support a culture of continuous improvement.

Medical Staff Leadership
  • Serve as the liaison between medical staff and administration; oversee credentialing, peer review, physician performance, engagement, and leadership development.
  • Foster physician collaboration, accountability, and alignment with organizational goals.

Clinical Operations
  • Partner with hospital leadership to improve patient flow, capacity management, physician services, ICU operations, ED throughput, and care delivery.
  • Provide physician leadership for operational improvement initiatives that enhance access, efficiency, and patient experience.

Strategy & Growth
  • Support strategic planning, service line growth, new programs and technologies, and alignment of quality outcomes with financial stewardship.
  • Identify and advance opportunities for innovation, market growth, and long-term organizational success.

Qualifications
Required
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Current Oregon Medical Board licensure.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience.
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience within a physician practice group, medical group, or healthcare organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in ambulatory clinical operations, quality improvement, hospital services, and leading multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage physicians, healthcare professionals, and cross-functional teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical practices, medical guidelines, quality improvement methodologies, healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, patient safety requirements, and compliance obligations.
  • Proven strategic thinking and financial acumen, including experience managing clinical budgets, productivity, revenue cycle performance, cost control, and practice efficiency.
  • Ability to communicate complex clinical and operational matters to both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders, travel between practice locations as needed, and participate in meetings across departments.

Preferred
  • Board certification in a clinical specialty.
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or related field.
  • Experience leading quality improvement, clinical integration, population health, and value-based care initiatives.
  • Experience working with electronic health records (EHRs) and healthcare technology platforms.
