Job description

ABOUT THE TEAM
BUILD THE SOFTWARE FOUNDATION FOR AUTONOMOUS MACHINES
Anduril's robots operate in some of the most demanding environments on Earth, from the ocean floor to the edge of space. The DeviceOS team builds the operating system and platform that make those systems possible.
We develop the software foundation that runs across Anduril's land, sea, air, and space platforms: bootloaders, kernels, drivers, system services, deployment tooling, and everything in between. Our work sits at the intersection of open source software, embedded systems, hardware, and real-world autonomy.
You will own projects across the full software lifecycle, from architecture and implementation through automated testing, hardware bring-up, field testing, and deployment support. This is a role for engineers who want to work close to the metal and see their software operate on real machines in consequential environments.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build and integrate modern open source embedded Linux components for robotic systems
  • Design tools and processes for safely deploying Linux distributions to fleets of robots
  • Customize vendor board support packages and hardware platforms for NixOS
  • Help secure embedded Linux systems across the platform
  • Bring up and maintain embedded ARM boards, including device trees, bootloaders, kernel drivers, and platform firmware
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, autonomy, infrastructure, and vehicle teams to turn demanding system requirements into reliable software
  • Debug problems that span the entire stack, from silicon and firmware to operating system and application behavior
  • Improve the engineering practices, automation, and observability that make NixOS safer to build and deploy

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing embedded Linux systems using Yocto, buildroot, or similar systems
  • Interest in using Nix/NixOS as an alternative to traditional embedded Linux tooling
  • Experience with C or Rust
  • Familiarity with build systems, cross-compilation, and software delivery concepts
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export controlled data

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Linux kernel development
  • Experience with uboot, EDK2, UEFI, platform firmware, etc
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following vendors: NVIDIA, Xilinx, Qualcomm, NXP, Intel, AMD
  • Familiarity with functional programming paradigms
  • Experience with one or more of the following languages: C++, Python, Go, Haskell
  • Experience debugging systems across hardware, firmware, kernel, and userspace boundaries
  • A track record of contributing to open source projects or building tools used by other engineers
