We are a trusted, full-service partner to public sector and government entities, K-12 schools, higher education, utilities, and healthcare customers across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Europe.

At Ameresco, we show the way by developing, constructing and operating tailored smart energy efficiency solutions, distributed energy resources, and infrastructure upgrades that drive cost savings, resilience, decarbonization, and innovation. Our comprehensive portfolio is built to address the challenges of today and adapt the future, ensuring long-term sustainability and success for our customers.

Ameresco has an opportunity for an Electrical Project Engineer to join our Federal Engineering team, supporting the design and execution of electrical systems for energy efficiency and infrastructure upgrade projects. This role will be based out of our Columbia, MD office.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and develop mediumvoltage and below electrical systems (typically 480V and under) for energy efficiency and facility upgrade projects, including preparation of drawings, specifications, calculations, and narrative scopes of work for retrofit projects in existing facilities.

    • Evaluate existing electrical systems through site investigations and field data collection to inform design decisions and identify upgrade opportunities.

    • Support project development by contributing to technical approaches, constructability reviews, and systemlevel electrical design decisions.

    • Develop and support preliminary cost estimates for electrical scope, including equipment, installation, and constructionrelated impacts.

    • Coordinate with internal engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to validate design intent, constructability, and pricing.

    • Support commissioning (Cx) activities and measurement and verification (M&V) planning related to electrical scopes to help ensure energy and performance requirements are achieved.

    • Assist with managing technical scope changes during execution to maintain alignment with project objectives, budgets, and guaranteed performance requirements.

    • Ensure electrical designs and installed systems comply with applicable codes, industry standards, safety requirements, and customer requirements.

    • Travel as required to support project execution.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited four-year college or university.

    • Minimum 3 years of experience in an electrical engineering or project engineering role.

    • Certification or progress toward Certified Energy Manager (CEM) preferred.

    • Experience supporting energy efficiency projects, ESPC or UESC programs preferred.

    • Familiarity with Federal or government facilities preferred.

    • Exposure to lighting retrofits, electrical distribution upgrades, controls integration, generators, or building automation systems preferred.

    • Experience supporting construction-phase activities such as submittal reviews, RFIs, and field coordination.

    • Working knowledge of commissioning (Cx) and measurement and verification (M&V) concepts preferred.

    • Experience with AutoCAD and electrical design or analysis software preferred.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $88,900-$128,750 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.
