Job description

Position Title: Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Location: Albany, MO 64402
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The EHS Manager is an individual contributor role responsible for leading environmental health and safety initiatives at a manufacturing site. This role will lead key assignments and projects in support of plant safety, environmental compliance, and the overall goal of achieving Zero Harm. You will be a key player in driving safety culture change, supporting compliance efforts, and improving environmental systems and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Engage both salaried and hourly workforce to drive a culture of safety and achieve performance objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations and internal safety systems.
  • Review planned changes, new equipment installations, and facility layout changes to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Partner with facilities teams to ensure compliance with property risk assessments and conduct regular site inspections.
  • Maintain and improve the site’s environmental management systems; identify and implement corrective actions and pollution prevention opportunities.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports (e.g., Tier II, TRI Form R, Residual Waste, Wastewater Self-Monitoring, Air Emissions Inventory).
  • Support and maintain compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Safety Management System.
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs, including proper handling, labeling, storage, and transportation.
  • Coordinate environmental testing and auditing related to air emissions, wastewater, and stormwater.
  • Deliver site-specific and standardized safety and environmental training.
  • Identify hazards and implement risk-mitigation strategies through sound health and safety engineering practices.
  • Lead and implement safety improvement projects using data, technology, and industry best practices.
  • Audit and improve effectiveness of safety programs (e.g., LOTO, JSA/JHA, permit systems).
  • Collaborate with safety committees and union representatives to address concerns, share best practices, and implement improvements.

Qualifications

Required:

  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience implementing high-hazard controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive a safety culture and implement proactive safety programs.
  • Solid knowledge of OSHA regulations and EHS compliance reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.

Preferred:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHMM, or related EHS certification.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Familiarity with behavior-based safety programs.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and conducting Safety Kaizens.
