ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Safely operate a Rear Load garbage truck on assigned residential routes while following Waste Pro safety and Decision Driving procedures.
  • Collect residential garbage, refuse, and recyclables and safely load materials into the truck.
  • Transport and unload materials at landfills, transfer stations, or other designated facilities.
  • Provide courteous, professional customer service to residents, customers, and the public.
  • Ensure garbage and recyclables are properly collected and identify/tag containers or materials that do not meet collection requirements.
  • Complete required Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections, DVIRs, and Safety Lane inspections in accordance with Waste Pro and DOT requirements.
  • Inspect the truck daily, including fluid levels, tires, undercarriage, and under-the-hood components.
  • Keep the truck clean and properly maintained, including regularly washing the exterior.
  • Perform physical and manual duties as needed, including cleaning up scattered refuse and moving or emptying large trash containers.
  • Complete and submit all required company, safety, and regulatory paperwork.
  • Be responsible for the safety of all employees working on or around the truck during the assigned route.
  • Follow all Department of Transportation (DOT), state, company, and commercial motor vehicle safety requirements.
  • Be available to work during emergency situations when required.

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend and participate in Waste Pro training programs as assigned.
  • Stay up to date on job-related technology, equipment, and procedures used by Waste Pro.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by your supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a valid Class A or Class B CDL for the state where the position is located.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of refuse collection procedures, safety practices, and applicable DOT and state commercial motor vehicle requirements.
  • Ability to safely operate a rear load, front load, side load, or roll-off refuse truck, including right-hand-drive equipment when required.
  • Ability to follow assigned routes, schedules, written instructions, and verbal directions.
  • Ability to operate truck controls and hydraulic equipment safely.
  • Ability to complete required paperwork, service records, and daily reports.
  • Must have the physical ability to perform the essential duties of the position, including normal range of motion, vision, and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, dispatch, and supervisors.
  • Must be able to read and understand traffic signs, safety instructions, and job-related paperwork.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to independently push or pull up to 50 pounds, approximately 800-1,000 times per day.
  • Ability to independently lift to 50 pounds from ground to waist height, approximately 800-1,000 times per day.
  • Ability to repeatedly get in and out of a commercial motor vehicle cab, approximately 800-1,000 times per day.
  • Ability to frequently bend at the waist and knees throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work 8-12-hour shifts outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.

Works in a variety of environment conditions, including wide temperature and weather variations including heat, cold, snow, rain, wind; noise and vibrations, fumes, odors and dust.

* Must have a Class A or B CDL valid for the state in which the position works. Requires a clean driving record.

* Understand refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines and practices; understanding of Department of Transportation and State requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
* Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction
* See in the normal visual range with or without correction
* Exhibit normal range of body motion
* Drive a front-end, side, rear-end, or roll off loading refuse truck, including right-hand driver's position on certain equipment, observing legal and defensive driving practices.
* Manipulate heavy equipment control levers
* Follow a designated refuse collection route or work schedule;
* Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
* Maintain written records and service responses.
* Must be able to speak and read English well enough to communicate with customers, co-workers, dispatch and super visors, understand highway and traffic signals, and be able to make legible entries on paperwork.
