General Engineer
Location: Houston, Texas
Facility: Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center
Position Overview
GD Resources LLC is seeking an experienced General Engineer to provide professional engineering, project management, and technical support for construction, renovation, infrastructure, and facilities projects at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
The General Engineer will support projects from initial planning and design through construction and completion, ensuring that engineering requirements, healthcare facility standards, safety requirements, and applicable codes are properly addressed while minimizing impacts on ongoing medical operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the planning, scoping, coordination, and execution of construction, renovation, infrastructure, and facilities projects.
  • Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other design documents for technical adequacy, code compliance, constructability, and operational impact.
  • Develop and maintain project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, risk registers, and other technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Management, Safety, Infection Control, clinical departments, contractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support construction sequencing, shutdown/outage planning, and coordination of work in an active healthcare environment.
  • Conduct root-cause and forensic analysis of facility system failures and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical memoranda, project documentation, and recommendations.
  • Provide technical and project oversight throughout planning, design, construction, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable VA design requirements, NFPA standards, healthcare facility codes, and other relevant regulations and standards.
  • Monitor project progress and assist with identifying and resolving technical, scheduling, cost, and construction-related issues.
  • Communicate project status, risks, recommendations, and technical findings to management and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional engineering experience in the applicable engineering discipline within a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting healthcare construction, renovation, facilities, infrastructure, or capital improvement projects.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and healthcare facility requirements.
  • Experience reviewing engineering designs, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and construction documentation.
  • Strong project coordination, analytical, technical writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple stakeholders and work within an active healthcare facility environment.
Work Schedule
The VA operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Depending on project requirements and facility operations, personnel may be scheduled during any of the following shifts:
  • 1st Shift: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM
  • 3rd Shift: 11:30 PM - 8:00 AM

Specific shift assignments will be determined based on VA operational and project requirements.
