Senior DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer
Chicago, IL
100% remote to start, eventually back in the office 1-2 days/week (still remote 3-4 days/week)
Summary
We are seeking a Senior DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer well versed in data processing, reporting, and ETL systems. You will be the first DevOps Engineer on this new product team, and will have a greenfield environment to build out tools and processes. This individual will own the performance, reliability, and automated delivery of those systems ensuring that our customers have the benefit of highly available and extremely effective products. You will do this by creating a bridge between development and operations, applying your software engineering mindset to various topics inclusive of system administration, observability, reliability, and performance. You will utilize your deep experience to simplify processes through automation while developing production software to continuously improve reliability and performance. 
What you'll be doing
 
  • Use data from our observability stack and incident trends to prioritize reliability improvements 
  • Provide architectural guidance on our critical customer facing services 
  • Develop continuous deployment capabilities and implement auto healing philosophies 
  • Contribute to sprint development, executing on availability, performance, and automation initiatives within our product roadmap 
  • Mentor and consult with product, development, and operations to drive reliability best practices 
  • Work with Product Management and Engineering teams to answer priority concerns for reliability fixes 
  • Define and measure SLI/SLO/Error Budgets 
  • Improve observability across all services 
  • Participate in On-Call rotations shared with development teams 
  • Collaborate with development teams on best practices, infrastructure setup, and planning activities with a focus on stability and performance 
  • Own and operate key SRE and DevOps infrastructure  
 
Skills we're seeking
  • 5+ years of experience with DevOps and/or Site Reliability Engineering
  • Experience working with Product Managers to develop automation strategies for new software builds
  • Understanding of SLO/SLI/Error Budgets 
 
Nice to have experience
  • Azure experience  
  • Experience doing DevOps for data platforms, reporting pipelines, ETL systems, or distributed and high throughput data systems 
  • Software development experience with a language such as Python, Java, Golang, Scala, Javascript, or C# (or similar) 
  • Devops experience for SaaS products/companies
