Position:  Custodian - Retail
Department:  Donated Goods Retail
Reports to:  Store Manager
Status:  Non-Exempt

Summary
Maintains the cleanliness of the store location. Responds to emergency cleanups and ensures that the building presents a clean and presentable environment for customers, visitors, clients, and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs the cleaning duties required to maintain the store location on an ongoing basis to include, but not be limited to:
    • Office cleaning, floor care, bathrooms, window cleaning, cafeteria cleaning, trash pick-up, emergency clean-ups, stairwells, high dusting, etc.
  • Assists with maintaining janitorial equipment and supplies. Keeps up-to-date list of supplies inventory. Obtains and maintains Material Safety Data Sheets on all janitorial cleaning products and chemicals when required.  Ensures that bathrooms are equipped with all necessary supplies on a daily basis.
  • Performs light maintenance duties for the main facility to include but not be limited to unclogging toilets, special projects, etc.
  • Uses universal precautions in cleaning bathrooms or emergency cleanups.       
  • Promotes an environment of workplace safety. Assures that duties are performed in a safe manner and safety requirements are adhered to.
  • Communicates problems and concerns to the Store Manager.
     

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Ability to work in and tolerate very unpleasant situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to operate basic equipment used for general cleaning.
  • Ability to handle and use cleaning chemicals safely.
  • Ability to work beyond the normal schedule as required.
