Job description

Job Summary:
As a Field Technician I, you will play a crucial role in ensuring seamless communication services for our customers by performing installations, fusion splicing, network maintenance, and supporting the repair process. In the role of the Field Technician I, you will diagnose and address technical issues within the network or at a customer's home with occasional assistants, all while delivering outstanding customer service. This role provides an exciting chance to cultivate your abilities in a swiftly changing industry and to make a valuable contribution to our mission of enhancing communication infrastructure for communities in underserved urban and suburban areas. This position will be reporting to the Technician Manager.
Location:
  • The role will be based in:
    • Mesa, AZ - In Person

Employment Classification:
  • Non-Exempt: Regular, Full-time

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None

Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Assist with network maintenance and equipment turn up as needed including putting generators at the huts.
  • Able to complete 4 or more installations or trouble tickets per day
    • Communicate effectively with customers
    • Maintain proper work cleanliness, attic safety, drilling safety, & proper wall drops
    • Provision, install and trouble shoot internet, VoIP, IPTV services
    • NID Placement, Non-buried Drop Placement, Cross Connect Work
    • Perform fusion splicing of fiber drop cables at customer premises, ensuring proper fiber preparation and splice enclosure management
    • Record customer, light levels, OTDR readings, internet speed readings
    • Maintain <10% Error Rate within 7 days
    • Maintain >4.0 Star Rating

Education and / or Experience:
  • HS Diploma or GED. If not applicable, must meet required number of years of experience
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a technical support role or related field

Required Skills / Abilities:
  • A valid driver's license to operate a company vehicle
  • Familiarize with routing, switching, and fiber optic transmission/equipment basics
  • Perform basic troubleshooting with tools such as OTDR, PON power meter, and VFLs
  • Understand outdoor engineering prints of network layout
  • Learn the basics of fusion splicing, including preparing fibers for splicing and managing splice closures
  • Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and customer service orientation

Physical Requirements:
Definitions:
Continuously: 6-8 hours in an 8-hour day or 60 times per hour
Frequently: 3-6 hours in an 8-hour day or up to 12-60 times per hour
Occasionally: up to 3 hours in an 8-hour day or 1-12 times per hour
Never: No physical requirement
In a typical work day, the employee will be required to:

  • Fine manipulation: Frequently
  • Lift: Will require capability to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Work Environment: Work is conducted outdoors on job sites, including residential areas and commercial buildings. Technicians may be exposed to various outdoor weather conditions including rain, heat, or cold.Occasional indoor work may be required.
