Launched in October 2021, the platform builds upon FOX News Channel's expansive newsgathering units & FOX Television Stations' added resources with a combined 120 meteorologists for a comprehensive suite of weather products featuring local, regional and national reporting, in addition to live programming. Utilizing multiple radar systems, including an immersive mobile 3D radar, and more than 100,000 HD cameras located around the country, the service offers users an innovative approach to forecasting, including coverage surrounding all weather patterns, from immediate to long-term. FOX Weather is America's Weather Team, and we are seeking a confident, highly motivated, and proactive Assignment Editor to join our newsroom. This role is critical in driving real-time weather news coverage across all platforms. You will work closely with our programming and field teams to coordinate breaking weather events, select compelling live visuals, and support dynamic storytelling as we cover weather news. In this fast-paced environment, you must have strong news judgment, be comfortable handling multiple breaking stories at once, and thrive under pressure. Prior experience pitching, researching, writing, and building editorial elements in a collaborative team setting is key. An interest in weather is a must.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate with officials and sources for editorial information

  • Monitor both traditional and social media for breaking weather news stories

  • Pitch unique and interesting guests, stories, and segments

  • Conduct in-depth research and compile well-rounded reports for our field teams

  • find stunning live visuals to support all platforms

  • Select elements such as sound, video clips, and graphics to help tell a story

  • Manage daily deadline turnarounds of a live show environment

  • Monitor and coordinate correspondent, contributor, and 3rd party resources

  • Build strong relationships with assignment desks at FOX affiliates and other news service partners across the FOX News Media family


WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience

  • Experience with TV newsgathering, assignment desk, or field production

  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to react quickly to breaking news

  • Ability to solve problems quickly, stay calm under pressure, and adapt rapidly to changing conditions

  • Willingness to work early mornings, late nights, and weekends

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks without sacrificing accuracy

  • Basic understanding of meteorology and weather science concepts

  • Degree or certification in meteorology or atmospheric sciences equivalent is a bonus

  • Interest and understanding of weather, severe weather patterns, and their impacts

  • Previous network-level or national newsroom experience

  • Familiarity with newsroom systems such as iNews or similar editorial tools

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $67,000.00-87,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
