Job description

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Health & Safety Supervisor, the Health, Safety and Security Officer is responsible for the delivery of high quality first aid care, injury management, site security as well as assisting the Health and Safety Department in the day-to-day safe operation of the mine.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer on-site first aid services and injury management processes, 
  • Administer the on-site visitor management system,
  • Perform on site drug and alcohol point of collection testing,
  • Control access to and egress from site,
  • Provide reports, as requested, from the Site access control software, 
  • Maintain the readiness state of the first aid room, Emergency Transport Vehicle (ETV) and gatehouse, 
  • Perform health and safety inspections and audits as required,
  • Assist in the delivery and implementation of risk control programs such as fall protection, confined space, hazardous energy isolation,
  • Support Occupational Health and Hygiene with monitoring and risk reduction initiatives,
  • Assist team members and contractors in the application of site risk reduction programs and procedures,  
  • Support contractor management with duties such as checking contractor orientations or reviewing safe work plans,
  • Assist in the analysis and reporting of site injuries, 
  • Build positive working relationships with team members, 
  • Perform basic janitorial and organizational tasks such as filing, scanning, and management of the Learning Management System (LMS),
  • Provide additional support to the Health and Safety Manager as required.  

 

Education & Experience

  • WorkSafe BC OFA Level III is required,
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency with programs such as Google Suite,
  • Experience in industrial settings or mining would be considered an asset,
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders,
  • Experience in the mining industry is preferred,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver's license and have access to personal transportation.

  • Strong interpersonal skills,
  • Required to meet the pre-employment testing requirements,
  • Demonstrate the eligibility to work in Canada.

Working Conditions

  • Work includes manual dexterity to use desktop computers and peripheral devices, 
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), 
  • Occasional exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments, 
  • Work requires heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing,
  • Work involves pushing, pulling, and moving equipment and/or supplies over 50 pounds, 
  • Job requires to be clean-shaven. 

Salary Range

$79,920.00 - $88,800.00 / annum.
