Job description

Gen-Systems is seeking an Engineering Product Manager โ€“ BESS to lead the definition, development, and market alignment of battery energy storage system solutions within our Product & Technical Solutions team.

In this role, you will help drive the roadmap and technical positioning of BESS offerings that support customer applications across evolving power environments. You will work across sales, engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams to define solution requirements, guide product priorities, support technical proposals, and improve product competitiveness. You will also help ensure that Gen-Systemsโ€™ BESS solutions are aligned with application needs, technical standards, and practical deployment realities.

This opportunity is best suited for a candidate who brings a combination of BESS or power systems knowledge, product or applications leadership experience, and strong customer-facing technical credibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and manage product direction for BESS solutions based on customer requirements, market demand, application fit, and business priorities.
  • Translate customer needs and market inputs into product requirements, technical specifications, and solution-level direction for internal teams.
  • Lead product definition work related to battery energy storage systems, including system architecture, performance expectations, standard configurations, and feature priorities.
  • Partner with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and commercial teams to ensure products are technically sound, feasible to deliver, and competitive in the market.
  • Support technical positioning for customer opportunities, including proposal inputs, RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, and technical presentations.
  • Evaluate application requirements and customer requests to confirm alignment with product capabilities, standards, and commercial intent.
  • Maintain and evolve product roadmaps in response to technology trends, customer feedback, competitive developments, and internal strategy.
  • Incorporate field experience, commissioning feedback, and practical deployment considerations into ongoing product improvement.
  • Participate in product, technical, and commercial review processes to support launch readiness and lifecycle decisions.
  • Coordinate with customers, suppliers, and other external stakeholders as needed to support solution development and market relevance.
  • Help improve product competitiveness through better standardization, performance, manufacturability, and technical-market fit.
  • Support compliance alignment with applicable technical and safety standards relevant to energy storage and power systems.

What Makes Someone a Strong Fit

You are likely a strong fit if you have worked in roles such as:

  • BESS Product Manager
  • Energy Storage Applications Engineer
  • Systems Engineer โ€“ Energy Storage or Microgrid
  • Technical Product Manager โ€“ Power Systems
  • Solution Engineer โ€“ BESS / Hybrid Power / Distributed Energy
  • Product Line Manager โ€“ Power Conversion / Energy Storage

You are most likely to be successful if you can connect these worlds:

  • customer needs
  • technical product definition
  • cross-functional execution
  • market-facing solution positioning

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering, applications engineering, systems engineering, product management, or technical solution development.
  • 3+ years of direct experience in battery energy storage, BESS, microgrid, hybrid power, distributed energy, power systems, or closely related power conversion/integration applications.
  • Strong understanding of BESS architecture, system components, and integration principles.
  • Experience translating customer or market requirements into product requirements, technical specifications, or engineering direction.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, commercial, and operational teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to support customer-facing technical discussions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior product management or technical product leadership experience in BESS or related power solutions.
  • Experience with PCS, inverter systems, controls integration, EMS, SCADA, switchgear, or related power-system components.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards such as UL, NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and IEC.
  • Experience supporting technical proposals, RFIs, RFPs, or RFQs.
  • Exposure to commissioning, field support, or real-world deployment of energy or power systems.
  • Experience in industrial, commercial, mobile power, standby power, or hybrid energy applications.
