Civil Site Engineer

Position Overview
Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is seeking a Civil Engineer III to support major Power and Industrial projects in Charlotte, NC. This role serves as a design engineer responsible for site civil design, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and permitting activities for industrial and power generation facilities.
The Engineer III will support project execution from concept through construction, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, cost-effective, and constructible engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
  • Prepare civil engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and design packages
  • Develop grading, earthwork, drainage, stormwater, and detention pond designs
  • Prepare erosion and sediment control plans
  • Support project scope, budget, and schedule development
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop design criteria and construction documents
  • Apply applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards
  • Perform material take-offs and cost estimates
  • Support construction activities through design reviews, field support, and technical evaluations

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • Minimum 6 years of civil/site engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with stormwater and drainage analysis, including Autodesk Storm & Sanitary Analysis (SSA)
  • Experience with grading, site layout, roadway/paving, and drainage design
  • Knowledge of erosion control, environmental permitting, and NPDES requirements
  • Understanding of surveying and geotechnical principles related to site development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Authorization to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications
  • Industrial, EPC, energy, or power generation project experience
  • Knowledge of wetlands permitting, Section 404 permits, and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Experience with security gate and fencing design
  • Construction support and field engineering experience
