About the RoleAs a
Physical Education Teacher at Merryhill School, you will help students develop the skills, confidence, and healthy habits that support lifelong wellness. You will create an active, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where students build physical literacy, teamwork, sportsmanship, coordination, and a positive relationship with movement.
In this role, you will design and deliver age-appropriate physical education lessons that support students' motor skill development, fitness, cooperative play, and understanding of healthy lifestyle choices. Through structured activities, games, sports, and skill-building exercises, you will encourage students to challenge themselves, celebrate progress, and participate with confidence and respect.
You will also:
- Develop and deliver engaging physical education lessons aligned with age-appropriate curriculum standards
- Teach foundational movement skills, coordination, balance, strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness
- Introduce students to a variety of sports, games, fitness activities, and cooperative challenges
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, leadership, and respectful peer interaction
- Create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where all students feel supported in participating
- Differentiate instruction and activities to meet varying skill levels, abilities, and confidence levels
- Teach students the importance of wellness, healthy habits, active lifestyles, and personal goal-setting
- Monitor student participation, skill development, and progress while providing constructive feedback
- Maintain equipment, instructional materials, and safe use of indoor and outdoor activity spaces
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues about expectations, progress, and student needs
- Collaborate with school leadership and fellow teachers to support a positive and well-rounded student experience
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Education, Exercise Science, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Teaching credential or certification in physical education preferred
- Prior teaching experience, particularly in elementary or middle school, is a plus
- Strong understanding of age-appropriate physical development, movement skills, and fitness instruction
- Ability to create engaging, inclusive lessons that support students with varying abilities and experience levels
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
- Commitment to student safety, wellness, and positive character development
- Ability to model enthusiasm, professionalism, sportsmanship, and a growth mindset
- Ability to pass state and federal background checks
- Passion for helping students build confidence, healthy habits, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity
