Reporting to the Plant Manager/Superintendent, this role is responsible for maintaining inventory levels of plant supplies, parts, tooling, lubricants, chemicals, and other materials necessary to support production operations. The position oversees purchasing activities, inventory management, raw material processing, and operational reporting to help ensure production schedules are met efficiently and cost-effectively.The Purchasing Coordinator works on-site in a manufacturing plant environment and regularly interacts with maintenance, production, suppliers, and plant leadership to support operational needs, manage inventory levels, and coordinate purchasing activities.What You'll DoMaintain inventory levels of plant parts and suppliesGenerate purchase orders and coordinate with internal and external vendorsManage raw material deliveries and processing activitiesMonitor inventory consumption, receiving, and replenishment activitiesManage parts and consumable cost control systems using Microsoft Office and accounts payable/receivable processesCoordinate end-of-month activities, including environmental, inventory, and cost reportingProperly identify, receive, and store supplies in storeroom and remote storage areasMaintain reorder points and inventory levels to support production requirementsWork with supervisors and suppliers to locate and expedite critical parts and supply deliveriesWhat You NeedHigh school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferredThree or more years of experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on ExcelStrong organizational and inventory management skillsDependable, safety-oriented, and flexible to work overtime as neededWork Environment & Physical RequirementsManufacturing plant and storeroom environmentFrequent interaction with production, maintenance, suppliers, and plant leadershipAbility to kneel, stoop, crawl, squat, and stand for extended periodsAbility to push, pull, bend, climb, walk, and lift on a continuous basisAbility to lift up to 50 pounds overhead on an occasional basisAbility to support plant operations in a fast-paced manufacturing settingWhy SilganAt Silgan, we invest in our employees with stability, training, and long-term career growth.
