Overview

The Small Business Performance Analyst is responsible for measuring, analyzing, and improving the performance of the Small Business portfolio. This role partners closely with Small Business leadership, Distribution, Product, Underwriting, Marketing, and Finance to translate data into insights that drive growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.

The analyst supports OKR tracking, portfolio monitoring, and strategic decision making, providing clear visibility into trends, risks, and opportunities across channels, agents, products, and customer journeys.


Responsibilities
  • Monitor key Small Business portfolio indicators (new business, renewals, loss ratios, appetite alignment, concentration risk) to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actionable insights.
  • Perform in depth analysis of agent and regional performance to identify opportunities that maximize Small Business distribution effectiveness.
  • Equip regional teams with actionable, data driven insights to guide execution, inform decisions, and improve performance.
  • Analyze portfolio profitability, loss trends, and conversion metrics to inform strategic decisions, including pricing adjustments on a frequent basis.
  • Perform cost-benefit and ROI analysis to guide Small Business investments and initiatives.
  • Develop recommendations that reduce friction, speed decisioning, and improve rates through effective use of third party data sources.
  • Assess product performance and customer behavior to inform enhancements and portfolio actions.
  • Translate complex analysis into clear, compelling narratives for leadership and field teams.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • This role requires strong knowledge of Small Business portfolios, including distribution models, underwriting fundamentals, profitability drivers, and OKR based performance management.
  • The ideal candidate brings advanced analytical skills, experience with portfolio level reporting and financial analysis, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for leadership and the field.
  • Success in this role depends on clear communication, cross functional collaboration, and the ability to influence growth, product, and underwriting decisions through data.

Education and Experience

  • College degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of P/L and/or experience analyzing and managing underwriting

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.


Pay Range
USD $124,000.00 - USD $160,000.00 /Yr.
