Job description
- Lead and oversee daily plumbing inspection and plan review operations, including supervision and mentoring of plumbing inspectors and plans examiners.
- Perform advanced plumbing inspections for residential, commercial, industrial, and specialty projects.
- Conduct detailed plumbing plan reviews, including review of engineered drawings, system layouts, load calculations, medical gas systems, grease interceptors, storm drainage, and specialty plumbing systems.
- Approve or deny plans and permits based on compliance with the Florida Building Code and Broward County amendments.
- Provide expert code interpretation and technical guidance to contractors, engineers, architects, inspectors, and municipal staff.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of plan review comments, inspection results, and code determinations.
- Develop training, standard procedures, and quality-control practices for both inspection and plan review functions.
- Participate in meetings, appeals, public hearings, and technical committees as required.
- Expert-level knowledge of the Florida Building Code – Plumbing, Florida Fuel Gas Code, and applicable NFPA standards.
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental agencies, and other clientele.
- Leadership and team management capabilities with the ability to mentor inspectors and plans examiners.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment.
- Ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information into company software programs.
- Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced atmosphere.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- FL Inspector License in Plumbing required
- FL Plans Examiner License in Plumbing required
- FL Certified Plumbing Contractor's or Master Plumbing license required
- 3-5 years combined experience in building department field inspection and plans examiner duties.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment).
- Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments.
- Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting.
- Work performed in both office and field settings.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain).
- Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.
