Job description

This position reports to the Production Manager. This position requires a great deal of judgment, interpersonal communication skills, time management, space assessment skills, organization, ability to multi-task, verbal and written skills, mathematics, computer literacy and an understanding of cross department functions.
Essential Functions:
  • Lift up to 25 lbs alone and up to 50 lbs assisted.
  • Both stand and sit for a ten-hour shift.
  • Directly supervise 10 to 20 hourly employees.
  • Oversee the operations of converting machines.
  • Coach, mentor and train employees. Identify employee strengths and weaknesses. Complete performance evaluations in a thoughtful and timely manner. Initiate new employee checklists. Initiate the training matrix.
  • The Supervisor should also train employees on corrugated properties and provide hands on instruction on machine safety and machine operation.
  • Carefully monitor the safety of all employees. Complete accident investigations and reports as necessary. Know the locations of fire extinguishers, first aid cabinets, emergency evacuation routes, and assembly areas. Prevent and report unsafe acts, employees, equipment, systems, or processes.
  • Monitor the department's level of supplies such as ear plugs, inks, gloves, tooling, and adhesives.
  • Supervise the quality of work produced during the shift. Know product standards and customer requirements. Segregate, quarantine, and dispose of defective materials. Conduct random frequency checks. Update and revise specs through company channels.
  • Insure productivity is maintained throughout the shift. Carefully utilize direct and indirect labor. Review and analyze low performance items. Develop methods for increasing productivity. Reduce waste. Reduce overtime. Strive for on time deliveries.
  • Possess a working knowledge of ASI software, including: estimates, machine routing, warehouse counts, and end of shift edit reports. Utilize E-mail, Microsoft Excel, and Word Processor for interoffice memorandums and other tasks. Directly operate the hourly employee payroll reporting system. Complete bi-weekly payroll for submission to the HR Department.
  • Enforce daily housekeeping to an inspection ready state. Direct the removal and disposal of all corrugated, foam, and industrial trash. Conduct weekly housekeeping audits. Monitor condition of the corrugated receiving bays continuously. Ensure all machine centers are continuously resupplied with board, inks, job tickets and tooling.
  • Directly monitor the upkeep, maintenance, and cleaning of machines on a daily basis.
  • Ensure that cross training occurs to cover absences and vacations.
  • Assist the oncoming Supervisor with shift changes. Ensure oncoming shift is setup with first order. Account for all company property. Report thefts, losses and damages.
  • Keep Superintendent, Production Manager and HR Dept. updated on manning board changes.
  • Coordinate maintenance needs of the shift and department.
  • Review all vacation requests. Approve or deny as necessary both in writing and in the system. Provide copies to HR, Superintendent, the employee and the Production Manager.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of previous supervisory experience in an industrial environment
