Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for elderly residents, ensuring that specific care needs are accurately identified and documented.
• Provide individualized and group counseling sessions aimed at helping clients navigate emotional issues associated with aging, including anxiety, depression, and loneliness.
• Work closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement comprehensive care plans tailored to each geriatric client’s needs.
• Engage and educate family members and staff regarding effective strategies to enhance the mental well-being and quality of life for elderly populations.
• Facilitate grief and loss counseling sessions for clients and families struggling with end-of-life issues, offering compassionate support during these challenging times.
• Implement cognitive stimulation programs and other evidence-based mental health interventions to promote mental acuity and emotional resilience among elderly individuals.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The primary focus of this role is on supporting seniors who are experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges. You will serve an older population in our community, addressing issues related not only to mental illness but also to life transitions and the inevitabilities of aging. Your work will make a significant impact as you help clients manage feelings of loss, depression, anxiety, and adjust to changing life circumstances.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
• A valid and active Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) credential in Massachusetts.
• At least four years of recent, direct experience providing counseling and mental health support to geriatric clients.
• Demonstrated understanding of effective, evidence-based interventions specifically tailored for older adults.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building rapport with clients and their families.
• Strong cultural competence and empathy to effectively support diverse populations of seniors.

Preferred Experience

• Prior experience in a geriatric counseling setting, particularly concerning addiction issues.
• Additional certifications or training in geriatric mental health or related areas.
• Experience with mental health support systems and referral processes for elderly individuals.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from USD 65,000 to 95,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with the potential for a sign-on bonus. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:
