Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough mental health assessments for elderly residents, identifying their specific emotional and psychological care needs.
  • Deliver individual and group therapy sessions that address emotional challenges related to aging, fostering a supportive environment where clients feel safe to express their emotions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop tailored care plans that address the holistic needs of geriatric residents, integrating insights from medical and social care providers.
  • Educate families and staff on effective strategies to enhance the emotional well-being and quality of life of elderly individuals, empowering them with the tools to support their loved ones.
  • Provide grief counseling and support for residents and their families facing end-of-life concerns, offering a compassionate presence during difficult transitions.
  • Implement cognitive stimulation programs and evidence-based mental health interventions designed to promote mental acuity and emotional resilience in elderly clients.
  • Document client progress and treatment interventions accurately, ensuring compliance with ethical and legal standards in geriatric mental health counseling.

Your primary focus will be on the geriatric population, a demographic that often faces unique challenges including grief, loss, and anxiety related to aging and health transitions. You will utilize a trauma-informed approach and culturally sensitive strategies to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that their individual experiences and needs are prioritized in the therapeutic process.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution is required.
  • A valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) credential in the state of Washington.
  • A minimum of four years of recent experience in geriatric counseling, demonstrating extensive knowledge of mental health issues affecting older adults.
  • Proven ability to deliver compassionate and effective counseling services to seniors with varying mental health concerns.
  • Proficiency in evidence-based interventions that support mental well-being in the elderly population.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with clients and their families.
Preferred Experience
