Under the general supervision and direction of and with the authority from the Chief Nursing Officer, the Nursing Manager performs management functions for the assigned units. The Nurse Manager is responsible for monitoring performance of the staff and all patient care activities of the assigned units. The Nurse Manager is qualified to perform all patient care activities of the assigned unit. The Nurse Manager will perform all functions in a professional and ethical manner and collaborates with other members of the health care team to ensure the provision of quality patient care.

  • The Nurse Manager delivers patient care in compliance with standards of care and practice and demonstrates competency in emergency care specific to the assigned unit.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Makes decisions on a variety of unit and personnel needs, meeting patient care requirements and financial expectations.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Integrates the department into the primary functions of the hospital by collaborating with other members of the health care team.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services, and integrate those policies and procedures with other departments as appropriate.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Evaluates and reviews staffing levels to maintain a sufficient level of qualified and competent staff providing care.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Determines the qualifications and competency of unit staff and provides for the orientation and continuing education and training to maintain and improve competency with the assistance of the Education Coordinator.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Provides for the continuous assessment and improvement of cost\-effective quality patient care services.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Performs annual unit assessment and performance improvement assessment, evaluates unit equipment and makes recommendations for space and use of other resources, such as patient services provided by off\-site resources.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Provides unit specific marketing and educational activities to the community.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • May be required to perform other duties as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Monitors and evaluates the delivery of patient care and completion of assigned tasks.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Selects applicants for employment, interviews applicants, and makes recommendations in relation to hiring or retaining employees.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Monitors the environment for safety, cleanliness, comfort and satisfaction for patients\/families and personnel, maintaining safety and infection control policies and procedures.
    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Takes responsibility for and maintains continuing education to assist in essential duties.<\/span>

    Requirements<\/h3>\n
    \n Must\-Haves:
    <\/b>
    License\/Certification: <\/b>Current Virginia RN license at time of hire. BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, & Fetal Monitoring is required.
    Education\/Experience:<\/b> Job requires five (5) years of previous nursing experience in Obstetrics, Labor\/Delivery, and Nursery care settings. Supervisory experience is strongly preferred. BSN is strongly preferred.
    Special Qualifications:<\/b> Ability to perform research for policy revision and development. Possess skills to perform staff instruction on policies and patient care procedures.<\/span><\/span>
