JOB SUMMARY
The NCH Preoperative Clinic APP (Advanced Practice Provider) is a licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician's Assistant (PA) who serves as the key provider on our professional team of clinical experts dedicated to improving patient care and surgical outcomes. The Preoperative Clinic APP position requires hard work and a willingness to help create a fundamentally new way of evaluating and optimizing patients scheduled for elective surgery.
In addition to seeing patients in the new NCH Preoperative clinic, the Preoperative Clinic APP will be a vital member of the team engaged in analyzing quality data and improving the hospital's systems and processes to improve outcomes across the entire spectrum of surgical care.
The NCH Preoperative Clinic APP reports directly to the Administrative Director of Perioperative & Endoscopy Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
• Works with the rest of the preoperative clinic team to develop and refine new systems of care for surgery patients.
• Functions as the primary clinic provider with backup and support as needed from an onsite perioperative medicine physician.
• Interacts with patients both by phone, in person, and via email.
• Ongoing learning to stay current in perioperative medicine including:
o Review of current guidelines in a variety of clinical areas
o Attendance at national conferences
o Creation of summaries of specific areas of knowledge
o Willingness to teach, to learn, and to exchange ideas with colleagues.
• Performs patient evaluations including medical and surgical history, review of medications, allergies, and structured risk assessments in multiple clinical areas.
• Makes decisions regarding each patient's readiness for surgery utilizing computerized algorithms to consistently drive best practices.
• Orders and interprets labs, x-rays, tests, and consults using evidence-based guidelines.
• Creates care plans and order sets customized to each patient's unique conditions, circumstances, and risk profile.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of Master's Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited school and have completed advanced practice or nurse practitioner program.
• Minimum of experience in clinical with outstanding teaching skills and the ability to facilitate organizational change.
• Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider in the State of Florida.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 3 months of hire.
• Completes all NCH yearly competencies within the allotted timeframe.
• Maintains professional licensing requirements.
• Completion of all continuing education requirements needed to practice as an Advanced Practice Provider.
• Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
