Job description

We are currently looking for a Press Operator Assistant to join our team. The Press Assistant role is responsible for the set up and support of printing presses in accordance with the printing specifications and customer requirements/expectations.

Responsibilities:
  • Continuously monitor print and seam quality; remove defective material and splice web per specifications.
  • Use ruler, safety knife, and hole punch during splicing and other tasks as needed.
  • Handle and palletize rolls without causing damage.
  • Understand basic printing and seam-related defects.
  • Record and enter production data accurately in the Radius system.
  • Assist Press Operator with make-ready: mount cylinders, prepare inks, substrates, tooling, and anilox rollers per Job Ticket and Product Specification.
  • Perform press-side quality checks (copy, color, registration, ink adhesion) and functional inspections.
  • Support efficient changeovers, including wash-up and set-up planning.
  • Clean plates, cylinders, ink pans; lubricate press as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area through daily housekeeping and 6S practices.
  • Follow all plant and corporate safety rules; report concerns immediately to supervisor.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects.
  • Act as backup support during operator absences, breaks, or downtime (may operate equipment under supervision).
  • Communicate job status, mechanical/material issues, and critical updates to team and supervisor.
  • Practice Lean Manufacturing principles and sustain 6S standards.
  • Meet attendance, production, and quality standards; comply with all MCC policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Print shop experience helpful, but not required
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with others (verbally and written form); seen as a team player
  • Ability to read and understand a job ticket
  • Ability to read a ruler and understand measurements (able to pass a ruler test)
  • Ability correctable to 20/20 (able to pass an eye test)
  • Ability to differentiate colors (able to pass a color test)
  • Ability to input data in the computer
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a high sense of urgency for on-time completion of assigned activities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay focused and follow instructions
  • Ability to stand and move around press area for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Assertive and solution-focused
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment
