Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking a collaborative and technically capable Software/Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, testing, configuration, and lifecycle management of tactical end-user devices and related mobile communications capabilities.
The Software/Systems Engineer will work across ruggedized Android devices, mobile applications, tactical radios, communications interfaces, peripherals, power components, mobile device management platforms, and supporting system infrastructure. The position requires a systems-oriented engineer who understands how hardware, software, communications, security, and operational requirements come together to form an effective fielded capability.
This is not primarily a software development position. However, prior Android application development experience is important because it provides the technical foundation needed to evaluate application behavior, operating-system interactions, device interfaces, integration risks, software releases, and vendor solutions. The engineer must be able to work effectively with software developers without being expected to spend most of the time writing production code.
**Candidate Fit:** This is not an information technology operations, help-desk, or cybersecurity-compliance position. IT and cybersecurity experience may be valuable as a supporting qualification, but it must be accompanied by relevant product engineering, Android, embedded or mobile systems, hardware-software integration, requirements, or system test experience.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide systems engineering support for tactical end-user devices and associated mobile communications capabilities.
  • Apply Android development knowledge to assess application behavior, system dependencies, APIs, interfaces, performance, security implications, and integration risks.
  • Analyze how applications, operating systems, device hardware, tactical radios, networks, peripherals, and supporting services interact as an integrated system.
  • Serve as a technical liaison among government customers, program leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the planning and execution of developmental, integration, interoperability, regression, acceptance, and operationally relevant testing.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, procedures, test cases, verification cross-reference matrices, deficiency reports, and test-result documentation.
  • Perform technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across hardware, Android software, communications interfaces, device configurations, and external system dependencies.
  • Support configuration identification, configuration control, status accounting, audits, technical baselines, release management, and version tracking.
  • Assist with the evaluation, configuration, and administration of mobile device management solutions used to provision, secure, monitor, update, and sustain tactical Android devices.
  • Support technical roadmap development, capability prioritization, technology-refresh planning, obsolescence management, and product lifecycle decisions.
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, test-readiness reviews, program reviews, configuration-control boards, and engineering working groups.
  • Engage with operational users to understand mission needs, collect feedback, identify capability gaps, and translate user needs into actionable technical requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain any security clearance and facility access required for assigned duties.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience in Android application development, mobile-device engineering, product integration, system test and evaluation, or a related engineering field.
  • Professional experience developing, integrating, testing, or troubleshooting Android applications or Android-based products.
  • Working knowledge of the Android operating system, application lifecycle, permissions, software packaging, APIs, logging, debugging, and device-to-application interfaces.
  • Experience translating customer or operational needs into clear, measurable, and testable technical requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate technical problems, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate issue resolution across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters to program managers, government customers, operational users, and other non-software specialists.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple technical priorities with limited supervision.
  • Ability to travel as required to support program meetings, testing, demonstrations, and field activities. Approximately 25% travel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Department of War acquisition programs.
  • Familiarity with tactical end-user devices, FCD-W, Nett Warrior, Tactical Assault Kit applications such as ATAK, or other dismounted command-and-control systems.
  • Experience with ruggedized Android devices, tactical radios, tactical peripherals, sensors, or wearable computing systems.
  • Experience integrating Android applications with external hardware, radios, sensors, serial or USB devices, location services, or network interfaces.
  • Experience with mobile device management or enterprise mobility management platforms, particularly in controlled, disconnected, degraded, intermittent, or limited-bandwidth environments.
  • Understanding of Android Enterprise, device provisioning, certificate management, application distribution, policy enforcement, operating-system updates, and device security.
