Edmonton, AB | Shutdown Contract | Target Start Date: August 27, 2026
Matrix HR is seeking experienced Apprentice Millwrights / Valve Technicians for an urgent shutdown opportunity based in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a fixed-rate role for technicians with direct industrial experience in valve repair, overhaul, pressure and function testing, and recertification.
We are looking for practical, safety-focused professionals who can mobilise quickly, work accurately under shutdown timelines, and complete the required quality and test documentation. Successful candidates will be employed by Matrix HR and assigned to support a client shutdown project.
What We Offer
  • Pay rate of $34 - $36 per hour.
  • Camp accommodations are provided with meals. 
  • Transportation to camp will be provided from Edmonton. 
  • Start dates in late August and early September
  • Project durations ranging from several weeks to approximately one month
  • 6-on/1-off and extended consecutive-day rotations
  • 11.5- to 12-hour shifts
  • Edmonton-based work with potential travel to client sites as project requirements dictate.
  • The opportunity to support technically demanding industrial valve work in both workshop and site environments.
  • Ongoing consideration for future shutdown and project opportunities based on performance, availability, and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, test, and recertify industrial isolation valves, control valves, pressure safety valves, pressure-reducing valves, actuators, gearboxes, and related equipment.
  • Conduct pressure and function testing of valves and actuators in accordance with approved procedures and quality requirements.
  • Diagnose valve and operator issues, complete work accurately, and support the safe return of equipment to service.
  • Complete QA job cards, test documentation, hazard assessments, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and related records to the required standard.
  • Support valve flushing, sealant injection, torque-equipment, and other valve-service activities when qualified to do so.
  • Maintain tools, workshop equipment, calibration records, and work areas in a safe and organised condition.
  • Participate in site surveys, prepare equipment reports, and provide technical support to workshop, production, and project teams.
  • Follow all Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality requirements, including the correct use of PPE, hazard reporting, and safe handling of chemicals, lubricants, and greases.
What You Bring
  • Valve Technician or valve servicing experience is preferred.
  • Millwrights are encouraged to apply, including apprentices
  • Safety tickets: CSO, H2S Alive
  • Must complete client orientation.
  • Experience working with isolation valves, control valves, pressure safety or relief valves, pressure-reducing valves, actuators, gearboxes, or related pressure equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to follow work packs, QA documentation, test procedures, and client or site requirements with accuracy.
  • A strong safety record and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and valve-related issues independently while working effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional approach when working with clients, inspectors, supervisors, and team members.
  • Willingness and availability to work shutdown schedules, including nights and weekends when required.
  • Mechanical, manufacturing, instrumentation, or related technical training is an asset; strong directly relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems and Microsoft Office is an asset.
Additional RequirementsSuccessful candidates must be able to complete all required client onboarding, site-access, safety, and fitness-for-work requirements before mobilisation. Specific shift patterns, work locations, travel arrangements, overtime treatment, and any site-specific tickets will be confirmed with selected candidates based on the final shutdown plan.
