About the Role

At MGX, you’ll join a shop team that keeps critical lifting equipment running safely and reliably. Reporting to the Service Manager, you’ll spend your days diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mobile cranes and boom trucks—work that directly impacts our customers’ jobsites and timelines.

A Day in the Shop

You clock in and review the work orders for a Grove RT and a National boom truck awaiting inspection. You pull the drawings, confirm parts availability, and get to work. With micrometers and gauges in hand, you examine wear points, read OEM manuals and technical drawings, and track findings in your reports. You trace a tricky electrical fault using schematics, replace a hydraulic component, and then run a full battery of tests to verify performance against OEM specifications. Before the day wraps, you complete a thorough annual inspection on a lattice crane, update time sheets and expense reports, and brief a customer on the service performed—all with minimal supervision and a focus on clear, professional communication.

What You’ll Tackle
  • Operate and perform comprehensive inspections on cranes to pinpoint defects.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mobile hydraulic and lattice cranes; service hydraulic and electrical systems and components.
  • Read, interpret, and apply information from operating manuals, parts catalogs, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Test mechanical, electronic, electrical, and hydraulic systems after repair or modification to confirm OEM compliance.
  • Prepare each job by verifying parts and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct precise annual inspections and document results.
  • Complete working reports, hour reports, time sheets, hours overviews, and expense submissions accurately.
  • Work independently, manage priorities, and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  • High School Diploma or GED; two (2) or more years as a Crane Mechanic/Technician preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with mobile equipment such as Grove RT & TMS Cranes; Grove GMK European Cranes; Manitowoc EPIC and/or Traditional Cranes; National Boom Trucks (preferred).
  • Ability to read and work from electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency preferred.
  • Ownership of a full set of hand tools up to 1.5 inches.

Schedule & Environment

This is a full-time, shop-based role with a typical schedule from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Overtime and weekend shifts may arise based on business needs. Expect exposure to extreme temperatures, changing weather, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, strong odors, and loud noise. Physical activities may include occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; frequent lifting/moving up to 40 pounds; and vision demands that include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
