Job description

Crane Systems Field Support Engineer

Picture your day: sunrise on a jobsite, a new Grove crane ready to be assembled. You’re the expert on the ground—coaching a distributor’s crew through safe rigging, verifying code compliance, and bringing a new model to life. By midday, you’re diagnosing an electrical issue the local team couldn’t crack, analyzing trends you’ve seen across fleets to prevent repeat issues. You wrap up by submitting thorough service and expense reports—then prepare for tomorrow’s training session with a distributor team.

This role is based in Manitowoc, WI and reports to the Field Service Manager.

What you’ll do
  • Partner with customers and distributors to rig, troubleshoot, and repair Manitowoc Crane Group equipment.
  • Support safe crane assembly and commissioning on customer jobsites.
  • Guide Product Service Managers and distributors on new-model setup, maintenance practices, and ongoing technical training.
  • Collaborate with MCG personnel on service documentation, parts availability, product requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Plan and coordinate investigations of customer-reported technical issues and implement processes to prevent recurrence.
  • Handle advanced diagnostics when challenges exceed distributor or customer capabilities.
  • Study issue reports to spot design/production/service trends and recommend product or process improvements.
  • Deliver detailed written service reports, timecards, and expense reports.
  • Represent the company with professionalism and integrity at every interaction.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma plus 2+ years of general mechanical or electrical experience; or a technical degree plus 1+ year of similar experience.
  • Technical service background; proficient with computers; able to read and interpret technical drawings; strong verbal and written communication.
  • Ability and willingness to learn to work with 480V electrical systems safely.
  • Crane experience is a strong plus (not required); hydraulic experience is a strong plus.
  • Comfort with frequent travel—up to 75%—both domestic and international.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in all weather conditions.
  • Background in heavy equipment, aircraft, or military vehicles/electronics is highly relevant.
Health & Safety
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Work safely and wear required PPE for each task.
  • Follow established job-specific and facility-wide safety procedures and rules.
  • Participate in safety training and demonstrate competency.
  • Surface safety concerns, unsafe acts, and suggestions—or correct what you can.
Growth & Learning

You’ll expand your expertise through technical training programs and hands-on troubleshooting alongside senior Product Service Managers—advancing your capability across electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.

Where pride meets purpose

If building what’s real motivates you, this work delivers the satisfaction of visible impact—on machines, jobsites, and people who count on safe, reliable lifts.
