Job Purpose:

The Facilities Engineer, Life Safety Systems is responsible for the engineering, operation, maintenance, compliance, and continuous improvement of building life safety systems across the facility. This role serves as the technical owner for fire suppression systems, fire alarms, toxic gas detection systems, emergency notification systems, and related life safety infrastructure. The position also manages capital and infrastructure projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, system reliability, and the protection of personnel, property, and business operations. The successful candidate will work closely with Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Security, Engineering, Contractors, and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to ensure all life safety systems are designed, tested, maintained, and upgraded in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as the technical owner and subject matter expert for:

  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Fire Detection Systems
  • Wet-Pipe, Dry-Pipe, Pre-Action, and Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems
  • Toxic Gas Monitoring and Detection Systems
  • Emergency Notification and Mass Communication Systems
  • Smoke Control and Emergency Ventilation Systems
  • Emergency Power systems supporting life safety equipment
  • Design, review, and maintain life safety systems including:
    • Toxic gas monitoring and detection systems
    • Fire alarm systems
    • Automatic sprinkler systems
    • Clean agent suppression systems
    • Gas detection and emergency shutdown systems
  • Ensure systems meet NFPA, IFC, IBC, FM Global, and local AHJ requirements
  • Ensure compliance with operational, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA, codes).
  • Support site specific permitting and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory inspections
  • Manage the Process Safety Management Program
  • Facilitate risk mitigation projects
  • Support emergency response planning and drills
  • Develop evacuation plans and occupant safety procedures
  • Develop and manage inspection, testing, and maintenance programs for life safety systems
  • Manage service providers responsible for supporting life safety systems
  • Interface with emergency responders (fire departments, mutual aid teams)
  • Lead capital improvement and upgrade projects from start to finish.
  • Coordinate with operations, manufacturing, R&D, IT, security, and other teams.
Key Competencies Required:
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in life safety, or EHS engineering
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and database tools (SAP preferred)
  • PE License or equivalent certification preferred
  • Experience with CMMS, BAS, and energy management systems
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or reliability engineering expertise
Previous Relevant Work Experience:
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, construction methods, and engineering standards
  • Prior semiconductor manufacturing experience
  • Experience managing contractors, consultants, and capital budgets
  • Experience with dangerous substances; including gases, solids, and liquids
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Facilities, or related discipline)
