Job description

Kansas City, MO. Rose Brooks Center, a nonprofit domestic violence agency, is currently seeking a full-time Chief Operating Officer.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a member of the executive leadership team and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The COO provides executive leadership for all program operations and organizational systems, ensuring alignment with the agency’s mission, strategic goals, and commitment to trauma-informed, accessible, and inclusive services.

The COO provides executive oversight of all direct service programs and supervises the following leadership team: Director of Clinical Services, Director of Community Programs, Director of Housing and Economic Advocacy, Director of Prevention, Director of Residential Services, and the Performance and Quality Improvement Manager.

The COO leads program operations, infrastructure systems oversight, performance management, quality improvement, risk management, and accreditation activities, and partners with finance and development on grant administration, compliance, reporting, and funding strategy.

In addition, the COO represents the organization externally and builds strong relationships with community partners, funders, and stakeholders to support a coordinated community response to domestic violence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee all direct service programs and program directors.
  • Ensure high-quality, trauma-informed, accessible, and inclusive service delivery.
  • Direct performance improvement and accreditation activities.
  • Oversee grant compliance, reporting, and program accountability.
  • Partner with CEO and leadership team on strategy and organizational planning.
  • Collaborate with finance and development on funding and grant management.
  • Strengthen and maintain community partnerships and collaborations.
  • Represent the organization in external meetings, collaborations, and events.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5+ years of director-level experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • 5+ years of experience in violence prevention and intervention.
  • Supervisory experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
  • Experience with grant management, administration, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated track record meeting regulatory and best-practice standards for program service delivery.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, Board members, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Detail-oriented, action-oriented, and strong problem-solver.

Preferred:

  • MSW, MPA, or similar preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
Hours:

This is a full-time, exempt position and requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday days but may include some evening and weekend hours. Duties are performed primarily on-site.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, exempt position. We offer a competitive total compensation package, including salary commensurate with experience/qualifications and comprehensive benefits.

Candidates must consent to background and Division of Family Services (Central Registry/Child Abuse) screenings.
