Genetic Counselor

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Genetic Counselor to provide genetic counseling services to patients and families. The Genetic Counselor will assess family and medical histories, evaluate genetic risks, explain genetic testing options and results, and support patients in making informed healthcare decisions. This role involves close collaboration with physicians, laboratory professionals, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive patient and family history assessments to evaluate inherited disease risks.

  • Provide pre-test and post-test genetic counseling for hereditary conditions.

  • Educate patients and families about genetic disorders, inheritance patterns, testing options, and potential outcomes.

  • Interpret and communicate genetic test results in a clear and understandable manner.

  • Assist patients in making informed decisions regarding genetic testing, screening, and treatment options.

  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals to develop patient care plans.

  • Maintain accurate patient documentation and counseling records in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

  • Stay current with advances in genetics, genomics, and precision medicine.

  • Participate in patient education, community outreach, and professional development activities.

  • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines, patient confidentiality requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations.


Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program.

  • Certification or eligibility for certification as a Genetic Counselor, as required by applicable national or regional regulatory bodies.

  • Knowledge of human genetics, genomics, molecular biology, and inherited disorders.

  • Strong understanding of genetic testing technologies and laboratory reporting.

  • Experience interpreting family pedigrees and genetic test results.

  • Excellent counseling, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to explain complex genetic concepts to patients with diverse educational backgrounds.

  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical documentation.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in oncology, prenatal, pediatric, cardiovascular, reproductive, or neurogenetic counseling.

  • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing (NGS), whole-exome sequencing (WES), and whole-genome sequencing (WGS).

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • Knowledge of clinical research, genomics databases, and variant interpretation guidelines.

  • Experience providing tele-genetic counseling services.

  • Multilingual communication skills are an advantage.
