Impinj Jobs Information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Field Application Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Field Application Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering or electronics, strong problem-solving skills, and typically a bachelor's degree in a related field. Familiarity with CAD tools, circuit simulation software, and relevant industry certifications such as IPC or Six Sigma are often required. Excellent communication, customer service orientation, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly make candidates stand out. These skills and qualities are critical for effectively supporting customers, solving technical challenges, and ensuring successful product integration.

How does a Field Application Engineer typically collaborate with sales and product development teams?

Field Application Engineers (FAEs) play a vital role in bridging the gap between customers, sales teams, and product development. They often accompany sales representatives during client meetings to provide technical expertise, helping to address customer requirements and troubleshoot issues on-site. FAEs also relay valuable customer feedback and technical insights to the product development team, influencing future product improvements. This collaborative environment ensures that customer needs are met effectively while supporting the company's sales and innovation goals.

What is a Field Application Engineer?

A Field Application Engineer (FAE) is a technical professional who works closely with customers to provide support, product demonstrations, and technical expertise on complex products, typically in industries like electronics, semiconductors, or software. FAEs act as a bridge between the engineering teams of a company and its clients, helping to solve technical issues, customize solutions, and ensure successful product implementation. They often travel to customer sites to offer hands-on assistance and gather feedback, which they relay back to their internal teams. The role requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication abilities.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Field Application Engineer can earn around $10,000 or more per month, especially with specialized technical skills, experience, and certifications in engineering or related fields. Success in this role often depends on industry demand, technical expertise, and the ability to work with complex products and clients, rather than formal degrees alone.

What is the difference between Field Application Engineer vs Sales Engineer?

AspectField Application EngineerSales Engineer

While both roles require technical knowledge and customer interaction, a Field Application Engineer primarily focuses on technical support, product customization, and ensuring technical success. In contrast, a Sales Engineer emphasizes sales processes, client acquisition, and closing deals. Understanding these differences helps candidates align their skills with the right role in the industry.

With more than 100 billion items connected to date, and multiple Fortune 500 enterprises around the world using our platform, we solve for a better understanding of our world. If it's a thing, we're working to connect it. Join Impinj and help us realize our vision of a boundless IoT— connecting trillions of everyday items to the Internet.

Team Overview:

The Senior Product Compliance Engineer will join our Product Realization Engineering team, a group dedicated to bringing innovative RFID products from concept to market. This team works closely with all engineering groups at Impinj and plays a critical role in ensuring product quality, compliance, and readiness for global launch.

As part of this team, you'll collaborate across multiple functions—hardware, software, manufacturing, and operations—while managing diverse responsibilities that range from regulatory compliance to supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities with our contract manufacturing partners. The work is dynamic and varied, requiring strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to different technical and process challenges.

If you enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment and thrive on solving complex problems that span multiple specialties, this team is the perfect fit.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead radio, safety, and environmental regulatory certifications for Impinj Reader and Gateway products
  • Stay ahead of changing regulations and certification requirements; advise engineering and product management teams on compliance needs for new and existing products
  • Lead the end-to-end process for product safety and reliability testing, including managing vendor quotes, scheduling, providing samples, and ensuring timely completion
  • Own radio performance and safety testing for products in collaboration with third-party labs
  • Arrange product reliability evaluations using internal and external testing resources
  • Support the release of new hardware revisions to manufacturing by providing accurate documentation, such as drawings and BOMs
  • Maintain revision control and handle the change management of product documents required for manufacturing
  • Proactively seek clarification and raise critical issues to senior engineers or management as needed
What You Will Bring:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in development, support, or manufacturing of electronic products
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience with radio regulatory compliance
  • Expertise in managing the full documentation lifecycle for manufacturing and product development, including updates and revision control
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate documentation and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Proven ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply them to products
  • Exceptional attention to detail when reviewing and approving test reports
  • Competence in planning and preparing annual budgets related to compliance and certifications
