About the Organization

At Function First Therapy Center, we aspire to empower individuals to improve their well-being through evidence-based therapeutic practices. Located in Mesa, Arizona, we offer outpatient therapy services tailored to various mental health needs, and have embraced a remote work model to maximize flexibility and reach. Our team comprises highly trained professionals who continually support one another and our patients. We value a collaborative spirit, professional integrity, and a commitment to patient success in every aspect of our work.

Work Environment

As a fully remote position, this opportunity allows you to work from the comfort of your home while maintaining the professional standards expected within an outpatient office setting. Our virtual environment is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including electronic health record systems such as AVATAR, ensuring continuity of care and seamless documentation. Our focus on a healthy work-life balance contributes to an engaging and productive atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments through preliminary interviews, documenting client cases from initial consultation through to treatment completion.
  • Evaluate clients’ mental, behavioral, and emotional health to identify specific needs and formulate tailored intervention plans.
  • Develop and implement recovery plans for individuals, couples, families, and groups, ensuring a collaborative therapeutic environment.
  • Facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions, utilizing diverse therapeutic methodologies to engage clients and highlight strategies for effective coping.
  • Monitor clients’ progress throughout the treatment process, making necessary adjustments to intervention plans in coordination with clients and their families.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of mental health specialists, physicians, and other healthcare providers to ensure integrated care and to discuss client progress or challenges.
  • Provide follow-up with psychiatrists and attending physicians for clients who have been hospitalized, ensuring a continuity of care post-discharge.
  • Proactively identify and intervene in behaviors that may hinder the recovery process, working alongside clients and their support systems.
  • Support family members and primary caregivers in managing associated mental health challenges within the family unit.
Patient Population / Client Focus

You will be engaged with a varied patient population, serving individuals across different demographics who experience a spectrum of mental health disorders, emotional challenges, and addiction issues. Client diversity is embraced, allowing the practice to reflect the richness of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds within Mesa and beyond.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution is required.
  • A current, valid licensure as an LMFT, LPC, or LCSW in the state of Arizona is essential.
  • Passing scores achieved on the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and/or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE) are required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of prior experience working as a mental health counselor is essential for success in this role.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems, particularly AVATAR, is expected.
  • Comprehensive understanding of underlying psychological, physical health conditions, and addiction disorders is crucial.
Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with the best practices of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) is highly desirable.
  • A deep understanding of the physiological effects of medication prescribed by medical professionals will enhance the counseling process.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities are necessary for effective engagement with clients and collaboration with colleagues.
