Job description
About Peel District School Board
The Peel District School Board (PDSB) is one of Canada's largest and most diverse school boards, serving approximately 140,000 students from kindergarten to Grade 12 across 262 schools in Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon. PDSB employs over 18,000 staff members and is committed to student achievement, well-being, equity, and inclusion, creating learning environments where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
The Peel District School Board is currently under the supervision of the Ontario Ministry of Education, with an appointed Supervisor responsible for governance and decision-making on behalf of the Board.
About the Role
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will play a pivotal leadership role at the Peel District School Board during a period of significant transformation and renewal. As part of Ontario's Putting Student Achievement First Act, 2026, the former Director of Education position has evolved into the CEO role, reflecting an enhanced focus on organizational leadership, financial stewardship, operational excellence, and accountability. The CEO will be accountable for all aspects of board operations, most critically, aligning resources to support student achievement and well-being. Responsibilities also include leading the development of the Board's budget and ensuring strong financial oversight. Reporting directly to the Ministry-appointed Supervisor, the CEO will provide strategic leadership across one of Canada's largest and most diverse school boards, helping to strengthen governance, drive organizational effectiveness, and advance educational outcomes. The CEO will continue to report to the Supervisor until governance authority is returned to a reinstated Board of Trustees. The Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Education Officer (CedO), and Chief School Services Officer all report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Oversight
•Provide strategic leadership for one of Canada's largest and most diverse school boards, ensuring all decisions, plans, and investments support student achievement, well-being, and organizational excellence.
•Lead the development and implementation of the Board's strategic priorities, aligning operational and educational goals with provincial legislation, government directives, and community expectations.
Operational Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness
•Direct the overall administration and operations of the Board, ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational services, effective resource allocation, and operational excellence.
•Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and service excellence across all departments, schools, and functions of the organization.
•Lead and inspire a diverse executive leadership team, promoting talent development, succession planning, employee engagement, and organizational capacity-building.
•Build confidence, strengthen trust, and foster a positive workplace culture across all employee groups through transparent communication, authentic engagement, and consistent follow-through on commitments.
Governance, Accountability & Stakeholder Relations
•Serve as the Chief Executive Officer and primary advisor to the Ministry-appointed Supervisor, providing timely, accurate, and strategic information to support effective governance and decision-making until the Board's elected Trustees are reinstated.
•Ensure compliance with all legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements, while strengthening transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the Board.
•Build and maintain strong relationships with students, families, employees, unions, community partners, Indigenous communities, government representatives, and other key stakeholders.
Financial Stewardship & Budget Oversight
•Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Board's operating and capital budgets, ensuring effective stewardship of public resources.
•Establish strong financial controls, performance measures, and accountability frameworks to support long-term financial sustainability.
•Ensure financial decisions and resource allocation are aligned with strategic priorities and support student achievement, as envisioned under the Putting Student Achievement First Act, 2026.
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Indigenous Reconciliation
•Champion equitable and inclusive learning and working environments where all students, staff, and families feel valued, respected, and supported.
•Lead the advancement of equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, anti-racism, and human rights initiatives across the organization, removing systemic barriers to success.
•Promote meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities and advance reconciliation by embedding Indigenous perspectives, relationships, and commitments throughout the Board's work.
Qualifications & Experience
•Experience leading and building a strong, effective, inclusive culture in a large, complex organization of comparable size and scope.
•Executive expertise in financial oversight, budget stewardship, risk management, and governance.
•Experience with labour relations, collective bargaining, and stakeholder engagement.
•Strong understanding of fiduciary, legal, and regulatory accountability.
•Commitment to advancing student achievement and ensuring enhanced outcomes for all.
•Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenous reconciliation.
•Graduate degree preferred; professional designations are considered an asset.
•Knowledge of Ontario school board governance, or the ability to quickly acquire it.
