Job description

Founded more than a century ago by the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, QueensCare continues the legacy of compassionate care through grants, scholarships, and support for inpatient healthcare.

In addition to the strategic philanthropy, QueensCare Health Alliance (QHA), an affiliate of QueensCare, delivers direct medical, dental, vision, mental, and spiritual care through mobile and community-based programs at schools, social service organizations, and places of worship, all at no cost to patients.

By partnering with local nonprofits, healthcare providers, and community organizations through grantmaking and collaborative programs, QueensCare serves as a connector in the healthcare ecosystem, strengthening access to care and improving health outcomes across Los Angeles County.

About the role

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the primary steward of financial health for QueensCare and its affiliated organizations, helping ensure that every financial decision strengthens the organization's ability to fulfill its mission.

Working in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), executive leadership team, and the Boards of QueensCare, QueensCare Health Alliance and St. Joseph's Health Support Alliance, the CFO translates financial information into organizational wisdom. This leader helps others understand not only where the organization stands financially, but how financial resources can best serve the people and communities entrusted to QueensCare's care.

Organizational Impact

The CFO creates the financial clarity, discipline and strategic insight that enables QueensCare to fulfill its mission with confidence. Success is demonstrated by ensuring that:

  • Executive leadership has the financial information needed to make thoughtful, timely decisions.
  • Financial resources remain aligned with organizational priorities, values and long-term sustainability.
  • The Boards have confidence in the organization's stewardship and governance.
  • Investments, real estate and operating resources work together to strengthen mission impact.
  • The organization has a long-range financial plan and sustainability measures that connect strategy, operating performance, liquidity, investments, and capital needs.
  • The finance team grows in capability, confidence and leadership.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Financial Leadership

The CFO connects financial insight with organizational decision-making. Working closely with the CEO, executive leadership, the Boards, and the organization's external investment advisors, this leader evaluates opportunities, identifies risk, and ensures that financial considerations support thoughtful decisions that strengthen QueensCare's mission. The CFO provides strategic oversight of the organization's investment program in partnership with its external investment advisors and Investment Committee but is not responsible for day-to-day investment management or security selection. Areas of responsibility include:

  • Financial strategy
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Treasury and banking
  • Investments
  • Regulatory compliance

The CFO oversees the organization's real estate portfolio (currently a portfolio of eight wholly owned real estate holding entities and their underlying properties) as an important mission asset. Responsibilities include evaluating property performance, capital investments, long-term planning, acquisitions, dispositions, facilities and strategic partnerships to ensure these assets continue supporting the organization's work for years to come.

Leadership and Team Development

The CFO develops a finance team that is skilled, trusted, collaborative, and committed to continuous growth. This leader creates clarity, develops others through coaching and mentorship, and fosters accountability, curiosity, and professional excellence. The Controller, who reports to the CFO, manages day-to-day accounting operations. The CFO ensures that accurate financial information becomes meaningful strategic insight for the organization. The successful Chief Financial Officer:

  • Creates clarity from complexity.
  • Builds trust through openness, consistency and integrity.
  • Seeks to understand diverse perspectives before offering recommendations.
  • Helps others understand the story behind the numbers.
  • Communicates financial information in ways that strengthen decision-making.
  • Develops people as intentionally as systems.
  • Balances disciplined stewardship with thoughtful innovation.
  • Recognizes that the organization's greatest asset is not only its balance sheet, but its people and its mission.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline is required.
  • An advanced degree (MBA, MPA, MHA, or related field), CPA, CFA, or other relevant professional credential is preferred.
Experience

The successful candidate will bring both the technical expertise and leadership capacity necessary to steward a complex, mission-driven organization.

  • Significant executive financial leadership experience within complex organizations.
  • Expertise in financial strategy, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, investments, and risk management.
  • Experience partnering with Chief Executive Officers and Boards of Directors.
  • Understanding of nonprofit financial stewardship and tax-exempt organizations.
  • Experience with real estate finance and asset management.
  • Demonstrated success building strong teams and developing future leaders.
  • Experience providing strategic oversight of institutional investment portfolios and partnering effectively with external investment advisors, investment committees, and Boards to align investment strategy with organizational mission and long-term financial objectives.
  • Experience with program-related investments or mission-aligned investments.

We offer a competitive benefits package designed to support the health, well-being and professional needs of our employees.
