Job description

Job Announcement This announcement may be used to fill multiple positions in Fairfax County's Department of Tax Administration. Under general guidance from the section supervisor, assist taxpayers with the various services offered by the county, such as assessments and payment of individual personal property taxes, real estate taxes, business, and county vehicle registration, dog licenses, and parking tickets. Exercises independent judgment and initiative in applying and interpreting complex tax regulations, procedures, and instructions to the public.

Provides accurate and courteous responses to citizens relating to the assessment, billing, and collections of all tax types. Researches various computer systems and local tax records pertaining to citizens and businesses. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required to support Spanish speaking customers and departmental operational needs.

Note: The assigned functional areas of this position include general administrative support, financial support, and/or customer service. This position may not exceed 1560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in this position are eligible for limited employee benefits (including medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage) and participation in flexible spending programs but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities (The knowledge, skills and abilities listed in this specification are representative of the class but are not an all-inclusive list.) Knowledge of standard rules and interpretations within own functional area and a working knowledge of established methods and procedures used in related areas; Significant nonstandard skill/knowledge is required involving production of an end product such as a report. Purchasing and Accounting Ability to perform data entry into Purchasing/Logistics Enterprise Resource Planning systems and/or Financial Enterprise Resource Planning systems in at least three functions (e.g., create shells, accounts payable processing). Personnel and Payroll Ability to perform routine Human Capital Management Enterprise Resource Planning system functions (e.g., process PARS, requisitions)

Executive Assistance Ability to maintain confidentiality and be sensitive to political issues. Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and two years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s). NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Additional Work Schedule Requirements: This position requires a flexible schedule, including the ability to work overtime during peak seasons or as business needs demand. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required to support Spanish speaking customers and departmental operational needs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must have excellent customer service and communication skills.

Must be able to: Work with a diverse population. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish to assist Spanish speaking taxpayers. Work independently and in a team environment.

Resolve issues/concerns promptly and professionally. Be detail oriented. Set priorities and attend to multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to communicate with others. Employee may require lifting up to 15 lbs.
