Job description

Job Description Position Title: Plumbing Engineer Location: Southwest Houston, TX Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site Overview: A well-established MEP consulting and design firm in Houston is looking to bring on a skilled Plumbing Engineer to support ongoing and upcoming commercial and industrial building projects. This position is based in their Southwest Houston office and involves end-to-end design responsibilities - from concept through construction - for complex plumbing systems across various facility types. Primary Responsibilities: Develop complete plumbing system designs for potable water, sanitary drainage, stormwater, and specialty piping systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.

Prepare detailed plans, layouts, and documentation using tools such as Revit MEP and AutoCAD. Perform hydraulic and flow calculations to size piping systems and verify system pressures and flow characteristics. Specify and select plumbing components, including fixtures, pumps, valves, water heaters, and related equipment.

Coordinate system layouts with other engineering disciplines, architects, and project stakeholders to ensure cohesive and clash-free designs. Conduct on-site field reviews during installation to verify adherence to design intent and troubleshoot system-related issues. Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, including IPC, UPC, ASPE standards, NFPA, and local jurisdictional requirements.

Prepare technical reports, construction documents, and cost estimates for plumbing-related portions of projects. Incorporate water-saving measures, greywater reuse systems, and other sustainable design elements to improve environmental performance. Stay current on emerging technologies and best practices within the plumbing and mechanical design fields.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or related Engineering discipline. At least 5 years of professional experience designing plumbing systems for commercial or industrial buildings. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and fluid system modeling tools.

Strong grasp of building codes, plumbing standards, and fire protection requirements. Proven ability to manage technical deliverables and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Credentials and Experience: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Texas or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe. Experience in designing for specialized facilities such as hospitals, laboratories, data centers, or manufacturing environments. LEED accreditation or a demonstrated understanding of sustainable building design

Knowledge of medical gas systems, steam piping, and process water systems. Familiarity with HVAC design concepts and BIM coordination best practices. Why Join: This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on high-visibility projects that shape Houston's built environment.
