Job description

You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in the Production Resources Department (Code 900), Production Resources Manager (Code 901), Service Shop (Code 990) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Qualifications:Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION
  • Ability to interpret and apply building plans and blueprints;
  • Ability to utilizing shop mathematics to plan, compute, and layout projects.
  • Ability to utilize knowledge of the physical exterior and interior configurations of a large variety of submarines and surface ships.
  • Ability to observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
  • Ability to utilize tools and equipment common to the trade and be skilled in the safety precautions, principals, and work methods associated with a maintenance mechanic.
